I bought a Model 15-5 38 special revolver which comes with a non tapered 4" barrel.

the gun was dry so I broke it down to clean up and lubricate.

I could not get the ejector rod to unscrew. I have the tool which I have been using for years on the SW reverse threads for the ejector rod.

my question...

did revision -5 change the threads to standard? I hate to go in the other direction if it will tighten.

my guess either on really tight or someone put some loctite or other adhesive.

also, what causes the open cylinder to slightly bind or stick in the full open position...yoke screw?

this 15-5 has a very slight sticking point when the cylinder is swung all the way out and would like to smooth that out. I could not find any other place it could bind on.

thanks in advance

Remove the yolk screw and try opening again. If it does not stick, it's the screw and must be re-fitted if it's not the spring loaded plunger type. Sometimes, reassembling the side plate can result in mixing up the yolk and lower forward side plate screws which are identical.
As far as the rod, You'll have to wait for someone else to chime in. All my SW revolvers are -1's and they are a left hand thread.

thanks Viper...

I did unscrew the yoke screw (not spring loaded) and thats it.

I usually separate the yoke screw from a the other side plate screw, unless it was changed prior to my ownership.

All S&W extractor rods from -1 on to whatever are left-handed threads. Odds are someone used Loc-Tite on it.

Put the cylinder assembly in a 200°F oven for 30 minutes. That should soften the Loctite enough to unscrew the rod. Be sure to use empty cases to stabilize the extractor star.

I roasted some red potatoes for lunch on sunday. I could have toasted my cylinder.
