I am new to pocket pistols. I am looking at a pc model 442 Centenial airweight that has a super tuned package. Anyone know anything about this gun? Also at less than 2" barrel is there much difference between the 38+P and the 357's in terms of energy? I can see where you have a different strategy with a revolver of this sort and the bigger hunting magnums that i am accustomed to. But I now have the bug for a pocket pistol!

BTT - anyone willing to provide help with this?

A 442 is an airweight, aluminium frame, steel cylinder and barrel that shoots 38 Special only.

The gun has probably had the action tuned for smoothness and reliability.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Sounds like that small run of Airweights that Davidson's had done a year or so ago. It's basically a standard Airweight with the Master Revolver Action Package done.

You are exactly right. After some research that is what I found. In fact Davidsons still has them. I appreciate your comments.

Davidson's was selling runs of what I believe are PC tuned J frames; I know of one of those 642's that averages 50 to 100 rounds of standard specials & midrange wadcutters a month for the last year plus. No reliability problems yet. That action is similar to my tuned 640-1. The Airweights are sweet for pocket carry.

I have a standard S&W 642 (my daily carry). If you are worried about the "dreaded" lock, then do what I did. I replaced my lock with the "plug". It is no longer an issue.

My 642 shoots very well and I am anticipating no problems with it. I shoot it from time to time. I normally practice with w/c's and carry the 158 gr Lead H.P. F.B.I. load (+P).

I fitted a pair of Crimson Trace #305 grips for better control plus LOVE the laser for low light.

Don't believe that there is a better pocket pistol than a 642 or 442.

Well said!

I appreciate your comments guys. I decided against the tuned gun at Davidsons. I found a promotion at my local dealer today an purchased a 442 w/lock for $379 and a $50 rebate for a net price of $329. I just found it to hard to pass up for a NIB pocket gun. ;)

I have one just like that and love it. After several hunderd rounds the action is reasonably smooth and the little revolver is more accurate than you would expect.

Good purchase.

Glad I could help tlaud. With the current $50 rebate, I'm finding it very hard to resist buying another Airweight! :)

Saw brand new Airweights at the gun show today for $355 plus tax and a $50 rebate. That's a brand new Airweight for $334 total. Hard to pass that up!

I got a 442 Pro Series last month. Its cut for full moon clips, +P rated, and doesn't have a lock. Cylinder is also stainless steel that is blued. I won't want a lighter gun in .357.
