I want to be able to use both my holographic sight and the stock iron sights (non foldable), to switch at will without cowitnessing.
From reading, the height of the stock sights are 1". So, I am thinking go with a 1/2" riser first, then a 1" see-thru riser, topped with my holographic (aimshot hg-m2).
I am hoping this will allow the holographic to be above the sights, and I can use the see-thru rail to utilize the stock iron sights.

Does this sound feasible?

The more expensive option is to get a new PA halosight, and the magpul foldables. However, at the range with the headphones on, I would rather have the sight higher than the rail, so I am still looking at risers.

What holographic sight do you have? Typically, they are the right height for co-witness out of the box. Using your iron sights, you look through the glass, not over it.

I'm baffled here!

Why would anyone NOT want the dot at the tip of the front sight? (AKA co-witnessed.)

I have the Aimshot hg-m2. I will measure the sight window.
How tall is the stock sight picture from the top of the rail?

I just really do not like the cowitness sight picture.

Looks about the right height. Put it on the rifle. Line up the red dot with the top of the front sight post and enjoy.

Forgot to ask... What is it you don't like about the co-witness? It the glass distorting your view?

I don't mind looking through the glass with the sight off when using the irons. However, I don't like the distraction of the irons when using the cool double-circle reticle on the halographic.
I also like the sights a bit higher so the headphones don't bonk the stock.

So, instead of getting the fold-down sights I figured to instead raise up the halo sight. The tallest see-thru riser I found is 1", which would block the iron sight picture, so need to raise that up a bit. This also gives me an option of putting on a full scope without blocking or having to remove the irons.
Checking to see if I need to order a 1/2" riser or a different size, and if there are any issues using 2 risers stacked?

Couldn't you also get a handle with integrated sight and put a see-through rail on top of it? Then at least you'd get some additional utility with a handle.

This is also an option! Which handles will work with the stock front site, and have a see-thru top rail?

Have you considered an offset mount with a reflex sight? They're mad in the 1 'o clock and 2 'o clock pos and you pick up a decent one for what you'd get selling your current optic. If co-witnessing isn't your cup of tea I'd either offset or buy some BUS. Might get a little choppy with two risers, imo.

a quick search and it looks like the UTG Carry Handle will work fine with the front stock sites.
However, I am not doing well in a search for a see-thru rail that attaches to this carry handle. Platform is new to me.

I have a UTG carry handle version 6. Any carry handle mount will work but make sure you get one with picatinny rail rather than weaver so you'll have more position options.

ps. You could just take off your front sight and put it on the bottom rail when not in use.

How are you using the "dot" sight? Many folks don't understand how to use these effectively.

You only look thru the iron sights to use the iron sights, which is a backup, not a primary way of using these sights.

The main advantage of the dot is wherever the dot is is where the bullet will go. As long as you can see the dot you're good to go. Again, do not try to look thru the iron sights unless the dot is bad.

Keep both eyes open and just let your dominate eye pick up the dot.

A sight with a gaudy reticule rather than just a 3MOA or so dot will be very distracting.

Just picked up my new MP1522 from the dealer. My information was wrong, the height if the stock sights are 1.5 inches from the rail. Too tall for a double riser, but my halo fits just fine
Now thinking of the foldable magpul sights.

What is the height of the folding magpul sights, from top of rail to top of sight post?? (stock is 1.5 inches)

Any thoughts in durability between those aluminum and the magpul mbus polymer?

What is the height of the mbus when extended?

plastic and aluminum, that's the difference. only difference is polymer will crack, and aluminum will bend, for the most part. I was watching a ebay auction for a troy front sight that was bent. I don't know what exactly happened to it but i dought it had more force than a drop from a 1 story building. and if you had that kind of impact on a magpul it'd probably break in two. With an aluminum sight it would act as a pop can would being recycled. Bottom line, imo, if you have your battle sights up your in an os situation that is preseeding the 1st os situation of your optics failing. At that point just hit 'em in the neck with butt stock lol. I look at it this way. Try to snap a magpul in half with your hands. Try to do the same with aluminum sights. if ANYTHING happens to a polymer anything, it's messed up. Ask yourself this. If it was damaged is there the chance it could still function.

That's going a bit extreme.

The real sights will be better, no doubt. They also cost a lot more. The clone sights are most likely not machined from bar stock as reflected by the price, so who knows how they'll hold up or how brittle the metal may be.

For a 15-22, I think the plastic will suit you just fine.

Are the stock sights steel and of good quality?
Can you use a stock front site with the mbus rear?
All I need now are the dimensions of Magpul mbus.
