$549 today at the local gun show. 6" barrel. Feels really balanced. Can't wait to shoot it! I thought it was a really good price.

What dash number? Did you get the box and goodies that came with it? What grips? Where's the pictures?
Nice price on a good 44 Mag.

It's a 629-6, Hogue black grips, with box (locks, etc). Pics are coming soon! :)

BTW...I know the general meaning of the dash (they made changes to the gun, etc), but where can I find *what the changes are*? For instance, what's the difference in a 629-1 vs. a 629-6?

Thanks so much! I know I lurk a lot on here and don't post much, but this seems to be a great forum. :)

dash #'s

for that price, don't worry about dash numbers.. But generly most here will probaly tell you to try to stay with a -4 and below, do to the way some of the parts are made in newer guns..

Very cool! Thanks a lot for the link! Do you know of anywhere online that would list the changes (like a wiki page or something)?

The standard catalog of the smith and wesson is a must have for any S&W lover.. I got mine off ebay for I think $24 shipped..Cover I think is around $32

Then I'm going to have to pick it up! ;)

Thanks!

I bought a 629-6 a couple of years ago. I think the only difference between the 629-5 and the -6 was the internal lock. It's easy to deal with if you don't like it, but it doesn't bother me.

You got a great price. I think the sticker price on mine was about $100 higher, and that was a discounted price from an official S&W dealer. With tax and reg it went higher yet. You done good.

That's good to know! It was the last one they had, so I was thinking it was a good deal. :)

I just picked up a -6 and mine does not have the dreaded internal lock. I also had a -2 prior and didn't hear many good things about that model either. What gives?

I thought all -6's had locks?

+1 for the sweet S&W .44RemMag

+1 for this excellent book. I bought one last month and have thouroughly enjoyed it. Ton's of useful information. It really does pay for itself with your first used S&W purchase as you are better informed.

Nice gun, good price. I got a shorter twin (4") a couple months ago, slightly used for $450. You will have a blast....pun intended!
