I bought this off a guy. I see the barrel is chopped and front site moved back, Not too bad of a job.The thing was a real turd at first. I need grips what frame is this? I have been hitting it with flitzs. The bore its nice and shinny. It locks up tight. I want to shoot it. See how it groups. Need grips bad. It was it really bad shape before I saved it's life. Why the barrel was cut we will never know.

Hard to tell but if it's a six shot it probably is a K frame. Very unique, enjoy!

Oh ya I got a good deal. where would be the best place to get some grips.. Should I post in the wanted to buy fourms? We all agree square butt J frame.????

You could also order a new barrel if you wanted so it would appear stock.....but I reckon it depends what you want it for, if it's just a plinker and you're happy with it then that is all that matters

As noted, you have a square butt J Frame. If you're willing to look into non factory grips Hogue will have grips that fit your model 63. If you want to dress it up with wood, Hogue is the first place I would look. Just to get you started, following is a link to Hogue Goncalo Alves for your gun.

Goncalo Alves - The most popular, light with dark figure : Hogue Inc., The Best Value In Handgun Grips, Rifle Stocks and Accessories - Bar None!

BTW, from the rollmark on your barrel I suspect that it's been cut back from 5 or 6 inches. Kind of sad to seen an old classic cut up like this but on the plus side you have an excellent shooter and probably got it for a bargain price.

I don't need to rehash what has already been said by others but to the original poster I would take up "ol timer's " offer if you want original grips. j frame round butts are pretty easy to find online but the square butts are a little more difficult, and then you might find the grips, just not the screw. i'm speaking from experience here. those grips look nice ol timer.

Oldtimer's are the right grips for your gun, the same ones it almost certainly shipped with.

There's also a seller named jami2409 (don't know anything about him) with a ton of S&W J frame target grips on ebay right now.

I have smooth J frame targets on my 63 and just love 'em.

The Magnas ol timer has are what the gun would have come with, and they work very nicely with a set of Tyler T grips.

Neat little gun--a three inch (that's what it looks like) 22 kit gun would be a nifty package.

I should hope you are not correct or else wouldn't this qualify as the "idiot" move of the century? the SCSW 3 lists only 2 in 6 inch. one of which is a square butt and we know the serial number. maybe the OP should share at least to the last digit? there are some known in 5 inch but how many is not known exactly. well lets hope he cut down one of the 4 inchers.

I wouldn't cut one down like that, but I would love to own one that somebody already had. It should make for a good shooting, handy little gun. Good score!
