This is my first thread on this forum, so if this is not in the right place, someone please correct me.
I was at a gun show the other day and saw something that I found interesting and wondered if anyone could tell me whether it was a factory option, something from the performance center, or some custom shop work....
I'm sorry I don't have a picture of this, but I will try to describe it to the best of my ability in words...
What I found was a Model 610 revolver with an interesting front sight installed. It was an older 610 - one with the firing pin still on the hammer. The front sight was actually milled as a dovetail length-wise down the rib of the barrel and slid in from the front. The "base" was quite long and then had a set screw in it to help secure it in place. It reminded me of the Weigand Interchangeable bases in the way it was installed, but it was a dovetail, not just a straight milled groove and it was all one piece.
The crown of the barrel was also chamfered a great deal more than any S&W revolver I'd ever seen before, making me think this was someone's custom work.
Has anyone ever seen one like that before? I am just curious about it...
Thanks in advance,
Mike W.
