I have an opportunity to buy a S&W Model 22. It's the S&W remake of the classic 1917 .45ACP. It's blued and has the 5.5" barrel.

A buddy of mine bought the gun new and decided he now wants a .44 mag. instead. He's willing to sell it to me for $675.00 with the box and papers. He says that he has shot less than 300 rounds through it.

Has anyone here had experience with this model and what is your opinion about the remake? The one objection I have is the internal lock.

I love it when folks ask my opinion...which is, why would you want to spend your money on a weapon to which you object? I cite to you El Bibliotecarios Rule Numero Uno--unless you stinking rich, there always gonna be more guns than dinerio, so if you miss one, there's gonna be another along pretty quick. For that price, I'd recommend holding out for an original M1917 instead of a faux weapon with a big hole in the frame.

I agree. For $675 you can find an original, without the lock and with lots of character.
