M&P9 Firing pin hole question

I just picked up my new M&P9 and I have a question. The firing pin hole on the breech face of the slide looks wierd. Its like an upside down tear drop rather than a round or circular hole. I have never seen anything like this before. Is this normal?

It's normal. I just completed an M&P armorers class and they pointed this out as a feature on all calibers. I missed the benefit of this though, I was busy playing wih the sample guns we were working with.

Might be a relief so that debris doesn't get in the striker channel. I often cut a chamfer in the hole for that purpose, seems to give the striker somewhere to puke out the crud...

It's "Normal"....makes a funny imprint of fired primers also. Again, normal.
