I wasn't sure if I should post this here or the gunsmithing section, but here goes.

I have a question about the forcing cone on my recently purchased k38/pre14 Serial Number K80,XXX. I hope the pictures are adequate to describe the pistol.

I recently came into this K38, it is in nice shape. It has all matching numbers and I just have a weakness for 5 screw guns. It seemed a pretty good deal, so I grabbed it.

After the 10 day wait, I found that it had a forcing cone that looks almost like it has been crowned. I checked it and looked at my other K38/Pre14 and and the comparison pictures are below

Below is the picture on the forcing cone of the new to me K38, Serial Number K80,XXX

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has seen this kind of thing before, or has an idea of why such a modification would have been done if it was a modification at all.

I'm mostly just curious, any insight would be appreciated.

I would guess by the looks of the barrel pin that the barrel was removed at some point after finishing. Looking at the breech end, I would also guess that the forcing cone was recut and the barrel shank reshaped.

This was a fairly common modification among target shooters of the period.

Have you put it on paper yet?

Drew
