New to S&W and Need Help

I'm a revolver guy, but collect mostly old Ruger SA's. But could not pass up this very minty M48-4. Could someone provide a Ser# date check please. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I agree, this is a very nice looking Model 48. But with an 8K serial number, I'd put it in 1975, except that the 48-4 was released in 1977. Numbers can sometimes be very misleading. Only a letter from Mr. Jinks can tell you for sure.

Except it is 28K which makes it 1978 most likely. The '78-'79 range is 25K to 56K

The prefix on the box looks like 2(space)8K, so late '70s is correct. Enjoy!
 
The Ser# on the revolver grip butt is 28K1003. I can't really explain how it is printed on the box label? Again thanks for all the input and help.
