Good Morning:
What is going on with the shipping charges?
I planned to purchase a couple of items but the shipping charges left me "Speechless"!
1. A Desantis Belt Clip from Natchez-$16.69 (2oz) Shipping Charges-$15.84

2. A small item (4oz) from another seller-$17.00 Shipping Charges - $13.80

Is the shipping by armored truck?

I always figured if someone wants to buy something from me even if it costs a dime, I would be glad they bought it and I should send it as economically as possible. Maybe they will buy more next time. I know how it is. Someone needs something really bad and they don't need to wait to put together a large order.

Last summer, I had to replace a stainless steel burner on one of the camp grills. The replacement part was around $22.00, the shipping was $24.00, that made no sense so I just bought a new grill for $65.00, which will last several years.

Small items seem to be the most disproportionate relative to shipping prices. Postal and common carrier rates have all risen and the big company's claim that their handling and labor contribute to the cost of shipping. If you buying guns at auction, like gunbroker or any of the other sites, $30 to $50 for shipping isn't uncommon, whether it's USPS, FedEx or UPS. In many cases, shipping is nearly 10% or more of the auction final sale price.

I don't understand either, why a $15 item winds up costing just as much as that to ship.

when buying online I ALWAYS do a search "<insert website name>discount code" or "_____ Coupon"

Often I will find a cost savings that helps a LOT.

I didn't think Natchez would sell anything to people that lived in Tn. Something about protecting their dealers. Don

It's mostly due to the "juice" (Mad Max) Fuel prices. If the items are shipped UPS, there is a min charge the company has. You can fill that same box with more items and the shipping will be pretty much the same.

At least Midway will ship small items by US mail for a lot less.

The best deal going on shipping is USPS priority mail flat rate.

I was going to order a couple spare firing pins for my son's S&W 2206, the seller had them listed at $28 each--which was enough given the item. Was about to place my order when they told me $9.00 for shipping. The two pins couldn't have weighed more than an ounce or 2, and would be about the size of a pen if placed end to end. Heck, flat rate priority shipping boxes are only $5.20. Fortunately, found another vendor with more reasonable prices, and realistic shipping charges.

The shipping charge that irritates me the most is Cabelas. If you order powder or primers for reloading and have it shipped to the store, you still have to pay the ridiculous Haz-Mat fee.

i buy an 1911 parts" hammer strut " at Brownells they send me in an box where you can put an pair of shoes parts 7.65 us shipping 32 us
they cancelled the pin strut because it's an non export firearm part.
in same time WOLF sends 3 packs springs for 13 us and NOE an mold
for 20 us wich is reasonable for international

Where I live it's 20 miles to the nearest town and 100 miles to a city large enough to actually have anything in stock. Even the crazy shipping costs are cheaper than paying for the gas to drive to get what I need.

I ordered a couple little parts from Dillon last week. These could have been shipped in one of those little padded envelopes but they sent it in a box large enough to ship 100 pieces of the size I ordered. Made no sense to me.

I hate shipping charges as much as the next guy, but don't forget it's not just the UPS, FedEX or USPS charge.

There is the cost of the box, packing material, labor to pack it, warehouse and all the other factors. But fuel is the biggy.

Have you actually tried to buy a basic cardboard box lately? It's unbelievable what stores charge for them.

I ordered a Mika pocket holster last week for my J-frame.

$35 plus a very reasonable $3 shipping. :)

Think about those ads on TV where you can get a second item free, just pay separate processing and handling. By the time you add the cost of the item, the initial processing and handling for that item and then the separate processing and handling for the free one it can get pretty expensive.

And any refund they offer if you are not satisfied only includes the actual cost of the item, not all the processing and handling charges (plus you have to pay the charges to ship it back to them).

FWIW...

I have occasionally e mailed or called vendors and asked WHY their shipping fee was so high. A few times they dropped the fee way down, shipped USPS, or the one time...sent the small spring and a few screws in an envelope for FREE.

AMMO is particularly puzzling. Palmetto can ship a 1K case of .223 for $12 out here to MT. Yet a few other vendors even closer to me are in the $50-$62 range through UPS for the SAME basic items. Guess who gets my ammo business?

I think many vendors add some profit to the shipping fees.

You've got to be flexible and have several different sources for things you purchase. I recently bought several boxes of Federal .22's (Bulk) for $ 18.00 per box, free shipping. Two other sites wanted $ 24.00 each, plus S&H. When you need something and can't find a good deal at your regular sources, try Google Searching. And FWIW, the days of skipping state sales taxes on Internet purchases are numbered. Soon you will paying your state sales tax on any item that's taxable, no matter where it's purchased.

IMHO some of those costs are associated with the seller's "handling" charges, i.e., additional profit, although it does take some time and materials to prep anything for shipping. I would suggest checking around to see who has the more reasonable charges and buy from them. Of course it always seems the specialized widget I need only comes from one manufacturer named Peggy, who is located in eastern Siberia!

I am waiting for the Government to require credit cards to divulge the amount of purchases made out of state for tax purposes. By the way Steve, have you visited NH lately :D

You obviously understand what's happening and how they intend to impliment this program. And I haven't visited NH in some time, I live on the opposite side of the state. I thought you folks didn't have a sales tax.

Oh Maine does have a 5% sales tax, that wedge of a state in between us doesn't though. :)

Everyones shipping charges have went up the last couple years (as has everything else). But Natchez shipping charges are higher then almost anybody. A few months back I told them to stop sending me their email specials...I told them their shipping is higher then everyone else and I will be shopping elsewhere.

Shop around, "normal" shipping for a small order is about $10.00 nowadays. It used to be $5-$6 just a few years ago.

I ordered a $6.98 item from LG Outdoors today, the shipping via UPS they charged was $13.94, that is just short of thievery. We ship product everyday, all by USPS Priority, and insure it too. Orders from $50 and up all go for $11.50, orders under $50 go for $5.00, if we can do that, they can too. Damn disgusting if you ask me.
