Just got back from the local gun show and I am happy to say I finally found a 29-2 in good condition, in fact I think it is probably the best I have seen. No wear marks anywhere, faint turn line, clean and bright bore, all screws are square and unmarked and the grips are very nicely figured. Sorry I can't post pictures at this time.

It is a pinned and recessed 4" blue, RR, WO, TT, TH and the serial # is N739xxx. I doubt it is of any special value or a collector, but it is a gun I have been looking for for some time and I believe the price was right.

I would appreciate any information you can give me about the date of manufacture or any other dates that are important relative to its age.

I am also curious about the numbers and letters stamped on the frame near the butt of the gun under the grips. Is there any way to know if the grips are original to the gun? Thanks for your help

N 700000 shipped in 1980. The extra numbers and letters on the grip frame are probably fitter's and inspector's stamps, with the possible exception of R-B or R-S or a four-digit number, which would indicate a factory refinish.

The standard stocks at that time would have been the oversized Target style with the so-called extractor or football cutout on the left. They were not numbered to the gun so there is no way to be sure if they came with the gun. Chances are if the gun is new or near-new the original owner didn't change them out?
