More and more I find myself wishing and wanting an AR that would fire 357 mag ammo. I know, I know, the rim..the rim. Well, why not create a 357 auto rim? Really just a 357 mag with the rim cut down. Think about it, you could still use them in your revolvers via moon clips. It would be great. Some say that there is no market for such a thing but I disagree. I would wager that a lot of us would be very interested. Plus, some craftsman could create a de-riming tool to sell too. Something like the reloaders use to trim casings but on the other end. AAAHHH, such a sweet dream. What imaginary gun do you dream of?

Not too far fetched; the 38 AMU is nothing but a rimless 38 Special, mostly loaded with wadcutters and 2.7 grs of Bullseye.

Sounds like a cool project! I have a 9mm ar and one of my buddies asked me "why"? He saw no point in it,i quickly told him my reasons and he just said "Oh". I red on another forum about a guy who built a 7.62x25 ar. Please build a 357,for the right price I would buy one!

I have been dreaming (daydreaming) of the 300 whisper, 125gr at about 2,200 fps.

357 magnum on steroids!

It seems like it would be good for anything that gets ugly between the house and the woods.

How about an AR in .351 Win? .357 Max. with the rim modified. It would be weird but no weirder than my .410 shotgun AR.

This sort of reminds me of the old .357 Automag round. If I recall correctly, that was a bottle-necked, rimless round in .357 that was set up to feed in the old Automag pistol. Setting up an AR for a cartridge like that would involve a lot of issues, but it might solve the problem with a rimmed case.

How about 30 carbine

Might be interesting in an AR platform, old meets new?

9X23 Winchester comes mighty close to a rimless .357 Magnum.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Someone is going to make an AR in .30-30 at some point just to say it has been done. This thread is right along with this idea.

Wells,
Let's see here...I'd take me one of them 9mm carbine barrels and have Clymer or
Manson grind a chamber reamer to accommodate a blown straight out .223 case.

Neck ream the brass neck/mouth a few thousands and load 'er up...
Proabable have to use .355 bullets or swage down .357s for the heavy weights.

Just a passin thought....;)

Dave
