I am having a hard time narrowing down information about the S&W 296 in 44 special. It seems some may have come with stainless cylinders while others would have had titanium cylinders. Does any have the weight on these revolvers?

They came only with Ti cylinders from the factory. Some had S&W, etc, fit a SS 696 cylinder afterwards, but they have apparently dried up. It's a great carry piece - 200gr .44 S&W Special Gold Dots are perfect for it - I like GA Arms loading.

I do not know of any 296ti's that came with a stainless cylinder. Unless someone changed out the cylinder to stainless, it came with a Ti cylinder. As far as weight, I believe the weight of a 296ti is 18.9 ounces, but I could be, and often am, wrong.

That's exactly what's listed in the 2001 catalog.

Nice guns, S&W cautioned that you should not use bullets heavier than 200 grains because of the potential for pulling. Holsters are hard to find. I ended up having Kramer make me an MSP paddle. I checked with a number of other holster makers at the time and they didn't have a mold for a 5 shot L frame. Recoil isn't as bad as some would lead you to believe... nothing like a 340PD, but it's no powder puff either! I changed the grips on mine, they came with Uncle Mike's rubber grips.
