1076 recall-does anyone know samething about that ? waht was the recall?

If you have one of these guns, depress the decock lever fully, and there should be a stamp under there indicating that the recall was performed. If not, call S&W and they will send you a box.

A shipping box. (they may send just a label) for overnight shipping of your gun to S&W.
They will perform the recall, and ship it back to you.

I never had one without the recall performed. Hopefully someone will come along and describe the problem. If you edit your original post and type "1076 recall" you'll get more help.

Don't be surprised if the pistol is returned without the little dots (punch marks) under the decocker lever. I purchased my 4576 over four years ago. It did not have the punch marks nor did it come with the box. In April of 2007 I contacted S&W Customer Service about the recall and also mentioned that I thought the sideplate was too loose. A few days later, I received a shipping label from S&W and shipped the pistol to them. They returned the 4576 without dots. The work order stated:

In a thread a couple of years ago, I recall noting that recently others had also sent their frame decockers back from S&W and got them back without dots. I think they only applied the punch marks (dots) when the pistols were returned under the original Product Service Advisory in the 1990s.

I'm just felt that the sideplate had a little bit too much play in it. After the sideplate was replaced, it was very tight. If you mean was the new sideplate itself different, no. It appeared to be the same as the older one, it just fit better. FWIW, the 4576 works and shoots great. 
By the way, if you call customer service at S&W, just tell the representative that you need a "call tag" for a 3rd generation frame decocker under the Product Service Advisory. There should be no problem. Good luck.

I an the original owner of my 1076 with an early product code. Just last month I returned my 1076 to S&W for the recall. On mine, S&W did stamp 2 dots under the decocking lever. The explanation said: "Repaired : Replace Sideplate"
"Repaired : Range Tested/Meets Spec"

I was a little groggy last night but am remembering more this morning.
This may be what was described in my armorer class that was claimed (by S&W) to be a fault of a special FBI specified trigger - intended to improve the trigger pull - that could over-ride the draw bar, totally locking up the pistol.
With the trigger and draw bar unmovable, the hammer would not move either, so the slide could not be retracted. If loaded, the pistol could not be unloaded, but neither would it fire.
The trigger was spec'ed for FBI pistols, but made it's way into pistols meant for other police contracts and for the commercial market.
At least, that's the story S&W told....

Yep, that's exactly what my work order states (see below). I keep the a copy of the work order with the pistol. I guess the tech who did my pistol didn't have his punch handing that day. Well, the 4576 will just have to go dotless unlike my other frame decocker, a 1076. It already had the double dots when I purchased it a few years ago.
