Cgood , how you been? I noticed you joined the forum in 2002.
Long time dude.
How are things in Southern California?
I escaped the smog in November 1987.

Spec ord. numbers on clamshell boxes are Julian dates.

The first number is the year. 0 = 1990
The year could of course be 1980 , or 2000. But we know the 610 was produced about 1990.

the 227 in yours is the 227 day of 1990.

Your model 610 was test fired and put in stock for sale on the
3 rd. week in August 1990.

Once fired cases were put in with Smiths I noticed the Julian date
on the label coincided with the date on the fired case envelope.

This is how I drew the conclusion about the Julian date and the subsequent
day the label is printed and the gun passes final firing inspection.

The shipping date when it left the factory is another matter.
The shipping date is considered by collectors to be the date
the gun was 'born' or, if you will, left its mother.

Cool, huh??

Good luck

The "special order" date on my 610-2 is 4444, but there are only 365 days in the year, but the date on the casing envelopse is 02-23-01.

If they were available and I had the money I'd buy 5 at that price!
The 5" Classic guns are some of the best shooting guns S&W has ever put out.
Post pictures after you buy it or ask if they will ship to another FFL as someone else here will take it it you don't.
