I tried out a new load today for my 27-2 today. I worked up some Hornady 125 grain XTP's with 16.5 grains of 2400. Not sure of the velocity, I will chrono these in warmer weather. Everything fired double action semi rapid pace, all one handed from 7 yards. Recoil isn't a problem at all but it sure has a bark to it. Definitely an attention getter.

You continue to torment me (and others) with that stunning shorty 27 with the amazing stocks.

Now stuff some 158 gr jacketed or hard cast bullets into cases with the same load and you'll get into .357 Magnum territory.

Looks like you took that squirrel right between the eyes.

I load a full grain more of 2400 with a 125 JHP and as I recall, it was 1450 fps out of a 6" barrel when I chronographed it.

i just picked up a 31/2 inch 27-2 nickel, think ill load some hot 158 jsp to try it out, i have looked a long time, finaly got one!

16.5 of 2400 is fairly mild load. I would guess you're getting about 1200 FPS from a 3.5" barrel. My 1970 Speer manual shows a max of 19.5 with 2400 and the 125. I have gone to 18.5 and found the muzzle blast intense. That clocked around 1600 from my 5" M27. Ran about 1500 from my 2.5" M19. Not really anxious to try that 19.5 load. Too much of a good thing.

Still, I think that heavy cast slugs and a short barrelled N-Frame go togeather like Cake and Icecream.

I like Lyman 358429, and 7.0 Grains of Unique with a Federal 100 Primer in R-P nickeled Magnum cases.

Start shooting those and I doubt that you will go back to 125 JHP's...

Oh I do shoot cast bullets in this gun, it truly loves 160 grain SWC's like the 358156 GC and the 358429 loaded in a .38 +P case, but I wanted to try something different. I have a single cavity 358156 on order that I am looking to have converted into a HP so I can have the best of both worlds.
