So I took my NOTB 642 to the range for the first time. I should say that I have experience shooting semi's and SA revolvers. The 642 is the first DAO that I have owned. I think I will have to be totally retrained on how to shoot. With the very heavy trigger and being DAO, even at 6 feet I had a hard time making a decent group.
While I'm waiting to attend classes, any suggestions?

Please keep practicing...it will get better. Get some 38 special snap caps and practice with them too. That made all the difference for me and my 642.

Among others, I've had a 642 for about 2 years and like it fine. It has about 400 rounds through it and the trigger is better, or I'm just used to it, or both. At 7 yards, I can hit center of mass every time, and that's good enough for self-defense, for which it's designed. If you want to target shoot, use a 22 rifle or a bow and arrow.

Thanks for the advice, I do have some snap caps, and I agree with the hitting center of mass for self-defense.

Shoot it and shoot it a lot.

I started out with a DA S&W more years ago than I wish to remember. With practice, you can out shoot most semi-auto owners.

By the way, I've carried a 642 in a pocket holster almost daily for the last seven years. It's a very good choice for self defense.
