Well, this thing was listed as a 5 round .38 for 250... Thinking instantly that it was a perfected I jumped all over it. So what I ended up with is a 6" 32DA, sn 229908 in nickel. I don't recall smith ever nickeling the hammers or triggers either... So gentlemen, how screwed did I get?

Welcome to the Forum. If it's a good shooter and mechanically OK, you are probably about even, even if it is a refinish. Otherwise, it's a $100-$150 worth of parts. Ed

It is sound, but is it late enough to run some powder puff smokeless loads through?

If it is, it might get a little CAS range time... Otherwise it will be a pretty paper weight.

Your .32 looks perfect in your picture, but it is definately refinished if the trigger and hammer are nickeled. Grips look to be in great condition if they are original.

You do have a .32 SA, 4th Model. S&W made more of this model (240,000) than any other. The 6" barrel is something you have going for you, since they are a little scarce, with 3" and 3 1/2" being most common. I would say that you paid what published information says it would sell for, including the refinish. I would consider having the nickel removed from the hammer, trigger, and guard. If the re-nickel is high quality, you would gain value by doing this.

Without close photos, it is difficult to tell the quality of the re-nickel, but if lock-up is tight and timing is correct, standard .32 S&W rounds will be fine and are still manufactured today.

Sounds good. Still P/Oed that it didn't end up being a .38 perfected... But oh well.

I found the Perfected Model a pretty tough S&W to find at the right price. Many went to foreign markets and not a lot come up for auction. Next time, make sure you can clearly see the left side of the revolver when looking for a Perfected, since they all had a thumb latch, as well as a top latch. This is the only top-break with both features.

I learned my lesson. I will never rush to buy based on a sellers description and one picture that is washed out from the flash. The 5 round .38 is what had me thinking perfected. It looks nice next to my other topbreaks though, and I got a Marlin 94 out of the deal as well.
