Model differences?

What are the differences and pros & cons with respect to the 3900, 4900, 5900, and 6900 series semi-autos?
I see where a 3913 goes for more than a 6906 etc.
Is there an advantage to a single stack over double?
Just very interested. I have a 6906 that I am very pleased with.

It all depends on what your intended use is for the gun. The single-stack 3913 might conceal a little better than the 6906. The 6906, of course, holds one or two more cartridges but is certainly concealable, too, just a little wider than the 3913. The full-size versions, having a longer barrel, might be a little mroe accurate for range duty. They are all tough, reliable guns.

Smith & Wesson seemingly wanted to make a gun to fit every role and every intended want/need. They also realized that we all have very different size hands. So what is comfortable for shooter A might not be for shooter B. S&W basically tried to make a gun for everybody. If you dig really deep into all of the production model 3rd Gens that were made over the years, I think they did just that. Some of those models, like the 3913, had a much more universal appeal and command higher prices. Others were made in such major numbers that the market is just saturated, keeping the price lower. But regardless of size, shape, grip or magazine capacity; S&W 3rd Gens are all incredibly reliable, accurate and purpose driven guns.

Exactly! If you can't fine a 3rd gen Smith auto to suit you then you may have to make your own gun! The 6904/6906 have fairly wide grips to accommodate the double stack mag, 12 rounds vs. 8 in the 3913...doesn't work as well in a smaller hand although I don't have big hands and do fine with the wider grip.
