I was lurking the Cabela's here near Ft. Lewis last night with a friend when it occurred to me that although I have seen many pictures of the Gov. I have never actually handled one. I must say finish on it was quite nice and the action was smoother than what I was expecting although the SA was much heavier than what I'm used to on any of my Smiths (thanks Dad). I was fairly meticulous in my inspection and one thing that I did notice after a couple of minutes was that the barrel was misaligned .5 - 1 degree clockwise if you were pointing the gun. It is the sort of thing that most would never notice and the sales man said that he couldn't tell, but my friend who although has very little experience with firearms but is an experienced machinist noticed it as well. I don't know if this says anything about the Gov. specifically but any time that I would be purchasing a new gun and spending my hard earned money on something that I expect to be perfect from the factory I get a little disappointed to find ANY flaws on it. I think what I'm trying to get at here is that no matter if it is one of their lower end J frames or something coming through the Performance Center we shouldn't have to so thoroughly inspect our new guns from a company that has been around for so long. They should be doing it right the first time.
On a side note I was also disappointed with the salesman because instead of bringing the gun to management's attention he shrugged and put it back in the case. I also had more faith in Cabela's than that.
