Effective immediately, Louisiana no longer honors non-resident permits issued by the State of Florida.

Most likely because every CCW holder in the country knows that if you get a non-resident FL permit, it is good in something like 30 states. Except Louisiana apparently. From what I remember, a NR-FL license was pretty much a slam dunk if you have a current home state license. Which is as it should be IMHO, and should be in every state.

That would be my take. And after yesterday afternoon, Arkansas will be ruling they won't recognize CCW's and DL's from Florida. SEC's a "take no prisoners" conference.

Colorado, Michigan, Maine, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida
also will not honor a non-resident permit issued by any other state that issues non-resident permits. This is the sort of broad brush solution some states have adopted to their own residents opting to get out of state permits either because of cost or local obstructionism.

Do you think that there is any possibility that some other states don't recognize FL non-resident licenses because FL doesn't recognize THEIR non-resident licenses?
I wish they did, but I certainly don't have any difficulty remembering that "What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander."

FL was probably just too easy to get. All you needed was $107 and a DD214. And then $107 every 7 yrs.
Ut is still honored in LA. It's $65 for the first 5 years, but you need to pay about $80 for a 4hr lecture. After that it's $10 every 5 years.

Not all service qualifies as equivalency training. Proof of residence, photo, fingerprints, certificate of training, citizenship and backround checks have not been dropped by Florida last I heard.
Florida does try to make your right to carry as easy for you as they possibly can but there are still requirements to be met.

I'm glad I read this post. I'm in LA and I have a non-resident FL license. According to the LA State Police website, I'm also now breaking the law. Fancy that! I'm a criminal overnight.
Anyway...as well as sending off a quick e-mail of displeasure to the governor's office and asking him to intercede on behalf of LA citizens with FL licenses, I'm also trying to get scheduled for training to obtain an LA license ASAP.

This provision is apparently on hold. Someone in Louisiana jumped the gun on recinding Florida reciprocity without any legislation involved. The message on the LA State Police website has been removed. For now, anyway, Florida non-resident licenses are still recognized and valid in Louisiana.

How many states will issue a non-resident permit if you don't have a permit in your home state?

As I recall, all but one: PA. NH requires a permit from any state. About a baker's dozen states issue non-resident permits.
http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/N...entPermits.pdf
Many states require application in person, some do it by mail.

Interesting thread..I am now a Texas Resident and have the Texas CHL and I was a Florida resident and applied there and both the wife and I have Florida as well as Texas. I just applied for Maine, even though its not recognized many places and has no reciprocity with Florida or Texas. I am also applying for Utah.....as a retired LEO, Federal Law kind of says I can carry anywhere if I meet certain conditions....but I can just see a battle of State rights vs Federal Govt in States like Illinois that could care less about the 2nd or 10thamendments....in any event going through Louisiana unarmed is not the best thing one can do...

As I understand it, several states have limited their reciprocity to "residents" of states issuing the license. Even Florida has now limited what they recognize as a license issued by the "residence" state. So I ask, why are they issuing out of state permits if they don't recognize them?
Handgunlaw.us check here and the "Yellow" states are CO, ME, NH, MI, SC, FL as states that Permit holder must be a resident of state they honor.

So that when you carry on FL sunny beaches they will have your $117 if you can't get a homestate license. If you DO have a homestate license, it IS good in FL.
Be glad they honor so many states AND issue to disadvantaged residents of repressive states.
Would you like to try to get a MD, NJ, or NY non-resident permit?? In theory you can, but go ahead, try it.

LA State Police were upset that residents of LA could get a Florida Non Resident Permit and carry in LA with it. That is what they were trying to stop. Their superiors or the State AG I can't find out which one told them to remove this from their web site and that a FL non resident was legal for a LA Resident to carry on. If they want to change the law the Legislature had to do it. From what I understand this is what they will do when the Legislature meets again. Make LA Residents get a LA permit to carry in LA.
