Have a look at the New MP SHIELD 9MM by S&W.
Great semi-auto, thin .95 WIDTH.
6 1/8" long, 4.6" High
19 ounces.
7 and 1, 8 and 1 mags included.
Around $400-$430 out the door presently.

Right now, I am carrying my, edc, XD9sc (13 +1) in a Tucker Texas Heritage on my right side with a 16 round mag in my left hip pocket. That is thirty rounds of 9mm. I also have my LCP in my left front pocket (7 rounds of.380).

I feel comfortably well armed.

Default 380 vs 9 MM

Why not try the new S & W shield. It is a nice gun, easy to shoot without hurting your hand. I shot 75 rounds out of mine on Monday without any problem or pain. Fairly accurite and powerful enough to get the job done. Up north a 380 is too small to carry in the colder months when people wear heavy coats. I have a Walther PPK and I agree that it hurts your hand, but it does put the bullets in small groups. The shield is a nice gun. Smith really got it right this time.

i know you said compact semi-automatic but i run with the Sigma sw9ve and just love it. If i was to get in a situation that i was going to need to use my gun to save my life id like that gun to have more than 8 rounds, sw9ve = 16+1

I have to be honest,I think some of the little .380 pistols are neat. However I would only want one as a pocket backup to a 9mm primary(or larger caliber)pistol.
Times when you absolutely cannot conceal a compact 9mm,then it at least gives you some choice besides a blade, but I'd check out a compact 9mm as a mainstay. I like what I've seen of the new Shield so far,and love a 3913.

I've looked at this thread the last couple of days and remember it from a couple of years ago when it was started.

I hate to type, so for me to respond means one of two things ... either I've had a drink or two or I feel I have something to add to the thread. In this case it's both.

IMO, the best gun to carry is the one you will have on you when you need it. My point is that if the gun is too heavy or inconvenient you will not carry it.

In my work I meet with a lot of clients in their offices or homes and it is not convenient to carry anything larger than what I can easily "pocket carry" for concealment ..... so 90% of the time I carry a .380 mouse-gun in my pocket. I know many on here carry a .38 revolver or a 9mm pistol in their pockets, but I find them too bulky, so I have settled on a "Kahr P380" loaded with hot FMJ rounds that I have confidence in.

I realize that the .380 is not as potent as 9mm but I know I will carry the Kahr P380 and it will be there if I need it ...... anything larger/heavier and I'm likely not to have it with me.

If my situation is one where I can easily IWB or OWB carry, then I usually carry a Glock 23 or S&W Model-13 (3inch) as my carry gun (neither of which is in the calibers the OP asked about).

Your situation is a good example. There's a time and place for everything. At least the FMJ's will probably give you better penetration if needed. Those Khar's are TINY! For 380 that would probably be my choice.

I normally carry a 6904 with 12 and a Sig P238 with 7 and a Firestar 9 mm in the car (locked box) with an extra mag. I like the little Sig as a competent Bug but if I go through all that 9mm and into the .380 it's time to make tracks.

9mm is a much better choice than .380 Check out the new S&W Shield, Walther PPS, or the Kahr CM9.
