Jesus Christ, Jim! You must have some awfully deep pockets!
What's the size of that thang equivalent to...an L frame snubby maybe?
You need a set of galluses too?

I believe it is inbetween a K and an L.
I am 6'4" 310ish lbs, 42x36 pants, 3-4x shirts, 54" chest... so I have an easier time concealing than most.
Here it is compared to a 629 2.5" snubby.
A J from would certainly be easier to carry than my .44 for pretty much anyone... and I am concidering a J frame down the road... but I love my big bores.
No galluses, just a decent belt.
Jim

Well, I'm a little bigger than you and my J frame fills my pocket up just fine. I couldn't imagine having anything bigger in there.
And yeah, I gotta wear galluses with my belt.

Yes--today two 45ACP revolvers, and a 38 revolver.
I am 6', 165lbs--and concealment is not a problem.

Evil One - Is that steel or alloy? I have a 431 (5-shot .44 Spl,stainless, 2.5" bbl). It fits a K frame holster pretty well, but a bit heavy for my pocket. I would consider my 325NG for such duty however (a little bigger, but alot lighter).

I always carry two. There are a lot of reasons to do so and no reasons-for me-not to.
I don't judge those who carry none, one or three. We're all responsible for our own salvation (plagiarized).

90% of the time yes. One of my normal carry firearms strong side and then a P3AT in a pocket holster on the weak side.
It is not always a backup gun but can be the first gun I would use in a number of circumstances.
In winter, I sometimes carry 3!
Note: Another good reason to carry multiple is to arm another person if necessary like my wife left her carry gun at home and hand over the secondary.

Whenever possible, especially since my wife doesn't always carry and I may have to arm her.

This thread has got me thinking about something I haven't seen discussed before but is appropriate here...
You are carrying two guns. You're in a shooting. You have used only one gun and the other guy is dead. When the police arrive, will they expect you to give up your second gun too for evidence, even if it's obvious that it hasn't been fired?
I have worked the street for 11 years now and have never seen or heard of such a scenario, but I have a feeling that the second gun would be taken too. After my shooting, the duty gun was taken as evidence, since I was not the only one who fired, and function and safety checks were performed. But what if it's clear that the second gun has NOT been fired? When all is said and done, will your second gun allow you to go home armed?

Dave is Cool.
Good question, Dave, and one I'm 100% completely unqualified to answer.
I will say that I'm glad I have several guns that can fill in until the heros return.
You're awesome. You just gave us an excuse to buy more guns.

She is all real steel... not a lightweight in any sense of the word.
The 445 was the successor to the 431. And the 431 is on my list of guns to look for when I have a little extra cash.

Yes I carry a back up. If i'm carrying a 9mm auto it's generally my 2in Model 12, or my 3in model 547. If I'm carrying a 38/357 revolver I'll carry a second snubbie in that caliber. Funny my agency refuses me the right to carry a back up, but off duty I can on my ccw. I also carry OC , a folding knife, cell phone, and extra ammo off duty. I have a long gun availible at all times also.

Dave, I would guess that they would take both guns since they have no real way of knowing whether or not you fired one or both until they get some witness statements. Also, at that point you are a suspect, so I would expect them to take any guns, knives, etc that you have on you that could be used as a weapon. Once they get some witness statements and have some time to sort things out, it is possible that they might a return a gun that they are certain wasn't used in the shooting and has no value as evidence.

I quess I can add my 2 cents. I always, when legal, have a lightweight J frame or a PM9 on my ankle. I will carry a 1911, 686, 66, 45 XD or something else on my belt when the fashion police allow it. If nothing is on my belt, I have a LCP or P3AT in my pocket. With handguns in these two positions, I can access them seated or standing. I am more concerned about access than running out of ammo. Yes, I carry reloads for at least one of the guns I am carrying.

David, it depends entirely on your department, or the one controlling the investigation.
Here I always check what had been fired and what had not, we only worried about the fired guns, but we did check, under stress folks can do things they have no memory of.
I also check all magazines, etc. that the officer has, in case they reloaded or topped off and don't recall doing so, I know a guy who dumped 30 rounds out of an MP5 and reloaded while doing a downed officer rescue, all he remembers is the downed officer's drag strap was a pain in the butt to get ahold of while wearing gloves.

I generally carry one and have one in the car. If I have to park the car for a duration, I pull the car one out and carry two. I'm paranoid that someone will get an easy gun while stealing my radio. I would have a hard time sleeping if one got stolen and was used in a crime.

At least 2, usually 3...on me, for 27 years...
To say nothing of the arsenal inside the G-ride
Past 10 years, always 1, occasionally 2...
But, I choose where and when I go now
Oh, there might be something in the truck on occasion too

I carry two over 75% of the time, but I don't classify either as a back up gun. Either one could be primary response weapon, based upon the threat.

This is a well traveled road. One question. Have you ever had to draw and fire your primary? MHO? Carrying one gun is a big enough responsibility. The average joe going about his daily business doesn't need a BUG provided he stays out of areas where he doesn't need to be. I don't think I need to elaborate on that. I carry one gun. One, maybe two spare mags. If that's not enough, sux to be me.

Nope. I figure its going to happen close and fast and if my primary CCW doesn't work then it was nice knowing you guys. That's why i invest in quality pistols and ammo. I do carry an extra mag and pepper spray.
Cheers!

No. I've never carried more than one gun at a time. For the last seventeen years it's been a .38 Special J-frame. It's enough for me to feel reasonably well-protected, especially since in old age and declining health I don't get out a lot.

Do you carry more than one gun at a time?
.
Shucks....Who don't
One for the right, one for the left...
I don't always know which hand I'll have free in a fight.
Sometimes my second gun rides in the seat pocket of the pickup or my un-marked,
getting to that holstered sidearm while seat belted in can be a chore at times.
When I was humpin the hills with the gang eradi'n ol' MJ or jest doing a scout on a patch, maybe add a carbine.
Always carried two, most times my bug had snake shot in it, (Those CCI shot cartridges will cycle
through my 3" Colt Defender without a hitch.) When ya out in the tall and un-cut it pays off to be prepared.
They're just tools, each serves it's own purpose.

I tried to carry my model 60 in a boot holster, but it was uncomfortable and affected my stride. I changed to a Gerber Boot Knife, and carried it until I retired.

One gun only!
Having made it through 30.5 years of big city crime fighting and another 10 plus years of LEOSA enabled CCW, I NEVER, EVER HAD A NEED FOR A SECOND HANDGUN and simply cannot envision a scenario in which I would need one now...or in the future.
Be safe.

Usually have one in an ankle rig due to how I dress at work.
I realize how slow an ankle gun can be so when situation allows I'll carry a second on the belt. For me it's just about quicker access not so much a need for a back up.

No. As a civilian whose directive and objective is avoidance, I don't feel it is necessary in the least.

Having made it through fifty-some years of world travel and travel thoughout the States, I NEVER, EVER HAD A NEED FOR A FIRST HANDGUN. Do you think maybe I shouldn't carry one?
BTW, I can easily envision a scenario in which I might need a second handgun for the other hand.

Back up gun
I carried a back up and it came in useful several times. Once during a shooting situation, my beretta 92, failed to work. I pulled my S&W air-weight, and started taking aim when the armed offender gave up. They make great small guns so there is really no reason not to could save your life.

Real life.
Let's just say I used one (1) handgun on hundreds of occasions...and it was ALWAYS sufficient.
Moreover, I have never experienced a non-intentional fail to fire or any mechanical malfunction that rendered the handgun in use at the time non-usable.
Be safe.

I remain quite comfortable with one defensive piece.
I do not encourage disaster by going in to known areas of trouble if I can avoid same.
I do carry different defensive pieces based upon where I am going to be. Forethought can be your friend with respect to avoidance or defense.
Thirty years ago I only felt the need to carry concealed when carrying large amounts of cash or valuables. Today I am compelled to carry 24/7. Sadly the world has changed. I want the old days back.

Nope. But if I had to spend any time in parts of the East Bay (Oakland, CA) at night I'd sure consider it.

Just to be clear, there is no right or wrong here. Do what you feel is best. It's your skin.
