Default Thoughts on Pachmayr rubber grips on N Frames?

Has anyone used any of the following on an N Frame?
--Gripper
--Gripper Profesional
--Decelerator

I am looking at something to replace the hogue rubber grips on my 4" 29. I'd like something that's shaped a little better and without the pronounced finger grooves. The Pachmayrs seem to have a better shape and the finger grooves are smaller. To date I have only handled the Gripper Professional grips. These have an open backstrap. Not sure if the others would be too big because of the enclosed backstrap. I feel that the S&W Cokes are too big.

Any advice is appreciated.

Call up S&W and for about $30 they will send you a set of the new relatively compact rubber grips used on some factory N frames, I think they are referred to as the Nightguards, but not sure about that. I got a set for my 625 and they are sweet, even have the S&W logo on them.

Me too. There are two sizes for the square butt, and I use the small, and for the round butt the Pachmayr number is 02938. These can be hard to find, but fit the RB N frame guns like a glove.

I've used the Gripper Professionals, which are my favorite grip and the regular Grippers. I've also use the Presentation grips, which are the ones in cowarts post. I've never tried the Decelerators.

Which grips are best for you is going to be an opinion only you can answer. Everyone is different with different personal opinions and physical characteristics.

I've found that if you plan on shooting a lot of heavy loads a broader surface at the back of the grip will help spread the pain a little better than grips that are narrower. If you plan on shooting rapidly, such as for action pistol games, I prefer grips that allow my trigger finger to sit further into the trigger guard, which is why I like the Gripper Pros with the open backstrap.

I know exactly what you mean about the Hogues, I hate them. At least until I work on them.

I think I like the stock Hogue grips best for me but I have tried the Decelerators. They are softer to shoot with but it takes me a long time to get the sites lined up.

Somehow I lost the original compact rubber N frame grips that came with this 625-10.

If any of you guys have the compact N rubber ones and want to part with them let me know.

My 625-10 is not near as pretty as yours--I carry it often and shoot it a lot. It serves as bug for my 325PD.

I think I have a set of the original grips that came with the gun. e mail me if you want them.

I think I have a set of Compacs for the N Frame. I hate them. They have an extra hump on the backstrap which positions the hand way too low. It gives the feel of a Bisley SA revolver. I did not realize this when I bought them. The texture is nice though, compared to the Hogue which I feel is way too sticky.

I believe my 629-1 has Decelerators, they aren't that big (but I'll admit my hands are a bit long) and are nicely slim.

For a .44 mag they do help.

Default Gripper and Gripper Professional for "N" frames

I have a regular Gripper on my 4 inch 657 and a Gripper Professional on my 657 3 inch. Both work excellent for me.

Dave, I'd be happy to take those compac's off your hands! They fit my hand perfectly, and point naturally for me. My thoughts on Pac's in general, ugly as sin, work like a charm!

Question

I'm currently looking into a set of Gripper Professionals for my square butt M28-2 and M29-2. I do have a set of Presentation grips but want something to fit my small hands. Using Hogues on my M29-2 gives me a vicious bite on the trigger finger every time. What do you guys recommend? Will the Gripper Professionals be my best bet?

My 6" Dan Wesson 44 Mag came with Pachmayr grips and they add lots of comfort and control to this bad boy. I use it primarily as my "Bear go away" gun (305 grain Buffalo Bore Slugs), when camping in the more remote areas. It is a cannon no doubt but the Pachmayr's contribute greatly to it's accuracy. Believe it or not I picked this beauty up for $369 on a consignment sale a couple of years ago.... SCORE! whooo hooo!

{Sorry the pic is so fuzzy}

Another vote for the original Pachmayr.
I used to shoot silhouette (lots) and the Pachs, though hideous looking, did the job. The later iterations, and Hogue never felt right to me.
From back in the day:

Unfortunately, uncle Mikes never made theirs for N-Frames.
Now, its Ahrends for me, however, and all the rubbers have gone to their just reward:

Shooting Magnum .44 loads can be punishing with stock wood or even the open back strap of the Hogue grips.

I use the Gripper Decelerators with the 629 .44 mag. They have a cushioned back strap and works fantastic taming the felt sting of recoil. Plus they aren't as big feeling as their Signature series.

I'm not wild about the finger groove grips either, although the Hogue works OK for me. Like others, I like the Pachmayr Presentation grip in large size. I replaced all the factory targets with this grip. For me, the Presentation grip allows a consistent hold onto the gun, which essential for accuracy. The factory target grips are shaped wrong for most human beings, too big at the bottom, too thin at the middle and top, making a consistent grip and control with the hard kickers difficult. They also work well with a holstered gun. The drawback to them for this is when the Pachmayrs are new they are a little tacky and will pull on a jacket or shirt. But it gets better quickly with use.

Aside from texture of course , the open-backstrap Pachmayr Gripper Pro feel just like a Hogue hardwood , which I have on more than a few of my guns.

However , if I had to carry my gun out in the open , on a belt , getting in and out of a car 24 times a day where a wooden grip would get damaged , or for use in a situation where my hands were likely to sweat , like a cop , I'd use the Pachmayr.

In fact , I used a Gripper Pro on my K-38 for matches.

That is what is on my 329PD as I make this post. While the Decelerators are softer, they do not come up as well for me, from the holster to line of sight.

For a SB N, I have found the Pach Presentation Small (SN-S) to be best. I have them on my 4" 29 and my modern "1917." Strangely enough, I like rubber Hogues best on my RB 325PD, but Pach Compac (NOT Prof) on my roundbutted cut down (to 4.25") M25-2.

Hello
My 2 cents
The Pachmayr presentation grip are the best. I wear XL-XXL gloves.
I found a pair of N frame square butt camouflage grips with no box or screw/bolt on ebay for $16 including S&H. The screw/bolt can be found at your local Lowes (I hate home depot) they are #8-32 in 1 inch you'll have to grind off about 1/8 inch though. I like the brass ones best 4 for $1.30!

So do I. That's what I've got on my Model 29 and Ruger Redhawk 41mag. They ain't pretty, but they do make both handguns much more comfortable.

Look at the grips on the current production 629 4". I called S&W a month ago and they were about $30. These are square butt and am thinking about getting them for my 625. Hopefully they line up okay.

Default Bill Jordan Pachmayrs

Aloha,

I like the discontinued Bill Jordan Pachmayrs on my M57/58s

They work well when shooting heavy loads DA.

I plan to get Herrett's version after we settle in Texas.

I would also consider their Shooting Master grips.

I've been using the new Pachmyr Diamond Pro series lately. They are a little fuller and softer. They feel good and absorb recoil better than most IMHO.
