3D Inc. aluminum speedloaders
I've been seeing these around the intrawebz for a while now. They were $14.95 with free shipping, so - what the heck! I placed an order on Friday. Had a receipt emailed to me within minutes, and a delivery notice emailed to me about an hour later.
3Dinc | Custom Harley-Davidson Bagger Latches | Custom Harley Parts | Road Glide Parts - Speed Loaders
It came today. Cannot beat that service! Let me reiterate: I ordered Friday from this company on the IL/WI border. My merchandise was delivered today (Monday), here to New Mexico.
Here's what was in the package.
The quality is evident in the photos. The fluting on the sides of the 3D Inc. speedloader makes indexing the 'loader to the cylinder a process entirely without thought. The large knob is easy to manipulate, but seems secure enough to not turn itself in a pocket (I'll give it a shakedown and report back - I've carried it in a jean pocket for the last hour and a half as I dashed around here cooking and sharpening knives) and has the corners knocked off to minimize catching on things. There are no sharp edges on this piece - everything is beveled. Like some models of the HKS speedloader, this piece allows the cartridges to wobble (interestingly, its direct competitor, the HKS 586, does not incorporate this wobble - the HKS 'loader for the Colt MK3s - also usable in the GP-100 I was testing this in - does).
The device functions just like an HKS 'loader. Weight appears to be darn near identical to the HKS 586 speedloader. I did not get out the scales, but I did perform an unscientific test, having Gina close her eyes and hold out her hands, putting one 'loader in each hand. She said that she thought the HKS was a tiny bit heavier, but said that they well could be the same weight. I had the same perception.
I found that the 3D Inc speedloader indexed and inserted the cartridges faster than did the HKS speedloader. However, the HKS speedloader seemed to release the cartridges faster. Speed of use seems to be a wash between the two products.
I'll report back on how pocket-carry of the 3D Inc. speedloader works out over the next few days.
Oh, and you guys with LCRs want speedloaders? I understand this gent will do aluminum one-offs on his CNC machines for $15. And he makes them for the .500 S&Ws . . .

How about the 8 shot .357 Magnum? The other one out there costs a fortune.

Here's a further report: carrying reveals that the flutes in the side of the 3DInc speedloader have another benefit. In addition to assisting with thought-free alignment of the 'loader with the cylinder, they cause the 'loader to stay upright when it's dropped into a pants pocket. I've been carrying speedloaders for over 20 years, and getting them to stay upright in a pants pocket has been a hassle for me the entire time (I've done all sorts of things to address this, none of them satisfactory). For me, the 3DInc fluting turns out to be a real improvement.
I've had no problems at all with the carry. I'm quite pleased with these, and feel that they are a top-quality product. I understand from a number of friends on other forums that 3DInc has been very responsive to consumer emails about making 'loaders for other guns (look for a revamp of their website to include an LCR and K-frame 'loaders - and possibly others), which is commendable.

David, some friends from another forum are inquiring about the 8-shooters. If I hear back from them, I'll post here, unless Erich beats me to it! (I'm waiting on ones for my LCR.)

They look very nice indeed. I ordered for L and J frame.
The 50 cal. speed loader does not say S&W 500, but what else could it be? This would be very tempting to get and load up for a paper weight. I do not have this revolver (don't really want it) but it would be a great (big) paper weight and conversation piece.
Thanks for the heads up.
Fred

I just called these guys, looking for a speedloader for a 686P and they said they have received a lot of requests for these and will be making thes in the next couple of weeks. They will notify me when they are ready. They re-iterated they are increasing their line of products if the demand is there.

Anchors, I've never set them on a scale. They feel a teensy bit lighter than the plastic ones (my wife - in a blind test - agreed).

I e-mailed them asking about the eight shooters and was informed they do make them but are out of stock for a week or two. They also make them for the Colt Python.

When he puts some protection on the back for the exposed primers, and gets them hard anodized in black, I'll take them seriously.

I'm sure Tony's holding his breath to hear whether you take him seriously.
To address your point about the exposed primers, though: I make a point of never carrying anything in a pocket with speedloaders/magazines (don't want to have to dig through a pile of junk if I need to reload in a hurry ), but it might be an issue for others.

Made it to the range before the speedloader arrived, I'll have to go again, now, darn it!
Like was said earlier, ship. confirm on a Friday, here by Monday.
Got one for a j-frame. It could qualify as bling, it looks that good.
Works as advertised.
Thanks again, Erich, TACC1.

The 5 shot .38 ones I received weighed approximately 50 grains more than the equivalent HKS model.

I received my 5 shot speed loaders this week. They seem very tough. I'm waiting on some pouches and when they come, the practice will begin.

Why was I not notified?!?!
Will they make them out of brass?!?!?
Maybe just a limited edition for us pre-war freaks.

5 Star Firearms just sent me the second speedloader in my order. They were very quick to respond...and they had to do another run of 8x357 loaders to do it.
In all, I am impressed with this company. I will buy loaders for all my revolvers from them.

I ordered speedloaders for my M-500 last night.
No, I don't know why!
I tried to order some for the 8 shot .357's but they are apparently out right now.
Thanks for posting this, Erich!

I've been training with these for a while now, while establishing the reliability & accuracy of an 8X357; 150 - 200 rounds of live fire a month plus dry fire & reloading 3X weekly.
So far, in my Mernickle pouches they can rattle when walking. Pocket carry has been fine (jacket/ cargo shorts). I'm ordering a Blade Tech double pouch for the .44 Special anyway, and I'll see how that works for these.
Smoothness when actually using these is progressing fine. My personal standard is the Comp II & 4" 686/ Hogue Pau Ferro six shot combo - which gives me perfectly smooth reloads with absolutely no hangups or problems at all whatsoever in any way. (With regular practice)
So far these look better than moonclips - to me. I'm still using moonclips too, in addition to these 8X357 speedloaders.

I purchased this 5 Star set from a fellow member a few days ago. Needless to say, I am very impressed with the product. The Loaders retain the cartridges extremely secured, yet the loading process is an effortless, quick task.
