Is the Mod. 649 too heavy for the Ken Null SMZ?
Hi,
Been looking at the Ken Null SMZ shoulder holster. It appears to be a nice set up.
A loaded Mod. 649 weighs in at about 2 lbs. Is it too heavy for the Null SMZ?
Thanks.

I'd say that it should work fine. I've only ever carried 342s and 642s in mine, but the rig itself is so light, I think you'll like the setup. You will have a little more tug on the offside if you lean toward the gun side, so if you clip the offside strap to your underwear, you might get a bit of a wedgie, I guess...

I've carried both a 3 inch 36 and a model 60 without issue. The 3 inch caused me to glue a small piece of thin leather over one of the rivets that hold the thing together.
In fact, properly adjusted, I carried a 5906. Should have ordered something specific, but wanted to see if the concept worked.

I carry my 640-1 in one and it's very comfortable.

I've got an SMZ that I never use that I'll sell you for $45 bucks shipped if you're interested. It's just like new, only worn a couple times. I just prefer hip holsters.

For the guys not familiar with the Null SMZ, here's a photo of one of mine. The design was originally from Seventrees and was intended to permit the carry of a suppressed pistol. It is probably the lightest, quality holster ever designed, IMHO.

To operate; push up on the handgun and twist out.

I'd suggest Null's SKR City Slicker for the J frames over the SMZ model. Both work great but the SKR is a dedicated J frame hoster that completely covers the revolver. The SKR is made only for the J frame:

The SMZ is made for a variety of handguns and has the same harness as the SKR.
I usually carry a Centennial Airweight or Chief's Special Airweight in the SKR, but I've also carred a Mod 640 in it and it works fine with the all steel models.
