Florida non resident permit?
I currently have a FL non-resident permit, as an IL resident our state does not trust anyone to have a CCW. It is my understanding that some states that reciprocate with FL, stipulate they accept FL permit, but only if you are a resident of the state that issued the permit. It is my understanding that FL is one of these states. That would then mean that as a Non-Resident permit holder, I would not be legal to carry in Florida.
Can anyone clarify this?

I don't think your case is pertinent in Florida
As you have a Florida permit. It would be an issue in Colorado but carrying in Florida on a Florida permit doesn't involve reciprocity. Just my take and worth every cent you payed for it.

You are fine to carry in Florida with your non-resident permit. I do not know for sure about any other states but have heard some do not. Don't remember which ones(CRS ya' know).

You can carry in Florida. You can't carry in Colorado, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, or South Carolina.

There is no such thing as a separate non-resident FL permit.
I have a FL permit and of course it is good in FL.
The problem you will have is that states MI, NH, CO, and SC require you to have a FL driver's license before they wil honor your FL permit.
NH will sell you their license if you meet their requirements, but with the other 3 states you are simply not going to legally carry there.
ME does not recognize FL at all, but will sell you their license, as will a few other states.

This site will also give you an interactive map to check where your permit is valid.
Concealed Carry Info, Maps, Firearm Forums & Community for Permit Holders
In FL you're good to go with a FL permit. You might want to look at a UT permit as well. 6hrs of class listening no shooting. You can find instructors in all states, just check the UT web site.
http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/concealedfirearms.html
$65 for 5 years, $10 for 5 year renewals without re-submitting paperwork. Classes seem to average between $85 and $100, but again, you don't have to re-submit a bunch of things.

the comments are exactly on target. Your good to go in Florida..that's why they issue permits to out of state residents. They did so (one of the first states to do that) because so many visitors come there.....they wanted people to be able to defend themselves while in Florida and they will honor the permit....other states including Florida mandate the license holder be a resident of the state in which he was granted the license....If you had or hold a Utah license to carry in Florida under the Utah license you must be a resident of Utah, unless you have the Florida CCW. Florida also allows any legal weapon in addition or in lieu of a firearm to be carried concealed...For instance a billy club or a tear gas dispenser....That provision of the Florida permit does not apply to any state that only permits firearms or handguns.....If you have an out of State Permit and move to Florida you have 90 days to obtain the Florida Permit but until those 90 are up you can use the out of state permit.....

Here is the link to Florida's Concealed Carry website that gives you all the information you need on who has reciprocity with non-resident Florida licenses:

I also have a FL non-res and we just picked up WA and WV. Both were going to honor FL only if you were a FL resident. WV changed the law and WA re-interpreted their law. We lost NV last year.
