Default Woods carry ammo: on the belt or speed strips?

If you're carrying a revolver in the woods, which do you prefer for carrying ammo and why:

1) Some sort of pouch, slide, etc. on the belt; or

2) Speed strips in the pocket.

I usually just throw speed strips in my pocket but I was wondering what everyone else does.

I carry Tuff Products Quick Strips. They are made in .38/.357 and .41 Magnum.
I carry the .38 strips as a normal thing, so I also carry them, in the same place, when I'm in the woods.

Speedloader in a pocket. Easy to get to and they work very well for me.

I do both. Carry several on my belt and stick some in a pocket or two.

Aaron, extra guns are my reload. I carry a speed strip for the .357 and a belt slide for the .44. I don't carry extra ammo for my NAA Black Widow.

On the rare occasion I carry my 629, it's two speedloaders on the belt and/or 12 rds in a ammo wallet.

Cartridge belt slides aka bullet loops. I've had good luck with them. Plus extra rounds in a pocket. The old fire three in the air thing if you get lost and all that.

Of course if there is something in your woods that is a greater threat level, bring your rifle.

If I were in the mountains of NC (and I lived in Lincoln/Gaston most of my life and have taken more than a few rides NW), I would believe in having more ammo than I think I'll ever need.

If I were carrying my 66, I'd say rounds in belt loops (since is effortless) as well as two speedloaders and a few speedstrips. Where ever my truck would be would have quite a bit more, just in case.

X2.

A speedloader is much faster than speedstrips. At least with me.

When I'm in the woods I usually carry a 22 revolver. I've got a little Uncle Mikes velcro close, belt pouch for spare ammo. If I carried anything bigger, (38/357) the same pouch would do.

When I go into the woods... overnight or all day or the wrong side of town....
I carry speed-loaders in my strong side cover garment pocket and
I carry a speed-strip in my strong side back pocket and I also
carry either a 2x2x2 and or a 3x3 dump pouch on my strong side belt
along with a speed strip in a pouch on my weak side belt. 30 to 48 rnds.

I use both Tuff and Bianchi Speed Strips.
I use HKS speed loaders.
I use Galco 2x2x2 dump pouch and or a Safariland 2x2x2
I use Two DeSantis 3x3 dump pouch one is for a 44/45 cal. and the other
is for 38/357 cal.
I also use the IHL Speed Strip Wallet.(Dillon Precision)

Usually a cartridge belt. Sometimes a speedloader or two on the belt as well.

MTM 50 round box in the coat pocket or an old Ammo Wallet in rear pocket of my overalls. Depends on how much shooting I plan on doing and how long I plan on being out.

Guess ammo carrying technology hasn't advanced in the past 6+ years, since this thread started .

I would like to add moon clips to the mix. They're just as fast as quick loaders with half the bulk. I haven't seen any for .44 Magnum, but who knows what's down the pike?

It's hard to beat speed strips for compactness and concealment. I don't like quick loaders bouncing around in a side pocket. I'm not sure the "speed" part is applicable, but they are okay with a little practice. I'm almost as fast using dump pouches, which lie flat on the belt.

I have one cartridge belt, for .45 Colt with a western holster. Six loops are stretched out for .45-70, ala "True Grit". (I had hopes of Cowboy Competition, but time is running out.)

If it's just for defense, what I carry depends on the circumstances. If I plan to shoot, I carry ammunition in boxes, 50 or 100 at a time, maybe several boxes.

No one has suggested a bandolier?

I carry revolver rounds on speed strips, the rifle rounds go in a top pocket with a hanky to cut down on the rattle. I have been known to take an entire 100 round box of 22/22mag in a cargo pocket or backpack.

Woods guns are generally (95%) .357 revolvers......

2 Safariland speedloaders....... one backup w/ .38+P hollowpoints..... one with 158 gr soft point .357s....just in case.

often with a 12-18rd ammo wallet with a mix of .38s and.357s.

Walking in the woods rifles...most common are a CZ 452FS in .22mag or a Ruger 77/357......... extra mag or two on my belt in a cell phone holster and maybe a ammo wallet.

Whenever I OWB OC my S&W 629 6-inch, I carry three speedloaders in my right front pocket and six loose rounds in my left front pocket. It goes well with my shoulder-holstered Glock 17 with 17+17 rounds.

Speed strips and pouches are great for woods carry but I prefer to carry my ammo in my gun.

When I go to the woods I carry extra ammo for the 22. When I carry the 41, 44 or the 475 Linebaugh I think a cylinder full is good enough for whatever I might encounter.

Default It Depends

While it does happen, felonious encounters in the woods are indeed a rare event. I carried a concealed S&W Model 65, 3" RB while deer hunting, often without extra ammo as I had enough junk to carry and I was already carrying either a rifle or a dedicated 12 gauge slug gun, depending on the county regulations.

I have a double pouch for two speed loaders and carry two speed strips in my right front pants pocket, as well as one of those flat ammo wallets in a rear pants pocket. Usually everything is .357 magnum, 158 grain JSP and JHP. If I was in definite bear country I'd switch to my .44 mag. Mt. Gun with a similar ammo set up.

I carry one of two guns for field carry. When messing around in my home turf of Texas I carry a 3" Model 60-10 .357 with a speed loader in my pocket and 6 rounds on my belt. When fly fishing in remote areas of Colorado I carry a 629-5 Mountain gun with a speed loader in a pocket and 6 rounds on the belt. For speed go with speed loaders. For extra reloads carry on the belt or speed strips.

In the woods or on the street speed loaders or strips are in my pocket. I had speed loaders in pouches on my belt when I first started carrying but my shirt would ride up over them. A Cop saw it and told me " hey bud your speed loaders are showing". Not wanting to advertise that I was carrying in our Coffee Shop, I put them in my pocket.

If I have a rifle I rarely bother with a handgun........ but my 3" 60-10 "micro 686"...... isn't really noticeable...........
