i thought i saw a holster that conceals deep in the crotch? anyone ...not thunderware but a holster. one loop and tuckable? for a j frame of course...

I need to get something along those lines for work...it is that or ankle and I am not sure ankle is best for the motocycle or lots of walking quickly..

I like my Smartcarry holster....I have carried everything in it from a Kahr PM9, to a Sig P6, to a Model 64, and Model 49 Smith...
I don't wear it every day, but I do wear it a good bit.....nothing hides a fighting handgun better IMO

I'm not sure I could think of anything less comfortable.

I have been wearing the SmartCarry holster system for over a year and wear it daily. My primary sidearm is a G19 but I always have the S&W 360 on me as well.

It works well with jeans, tactical type pants, slacks and goes great with shorts, the system takes a few diligent days to get used to and once you fine tune the fit, it just feels like it belongs there, you will not have a lightning fast draw but a deliberate and surprisingly fast draw can be accomplished if you apply yourself and practice.

For the above practice I used 3 sets of snap caps, one in revolver and 2 reloads that alternated between speed strips and a speedloader.

I had seen many great reviews and as many reviews indicating the opposite but for me, the system really works and is very comfortable.

I wear it exclusively with shorts and it virtually disappears, prior to purchasing this system I was primarily carrying the J Frame in a Kramer Pocket holster and was very happy with the nice leather holsters fit, finish and ergonomics but in all reality the Kramer leather stays vacant on the bedside table or in the holster drawer.

SmartCarry is just way to easy and comfortable, the trick I have found is to adjust the velcro where the holsters belt rides low on the hip, the lower it is on the hip, the better it feels.

Not a salesman by any means, only a very satisfied consumer, a tip I would give to a new purchaser, once you have the holster system, wash it several times along with fabric softener and then wear it for long periods over a 2 to 3 day period, you will find that yourself tweaking it to your liking, and soon enough, you wont even realize you have it on.

Deep cover and a J Frame go hand in hand, ya might as well have comfort with your always gun, this one is my pick.

I hope in some way you will find the post useful no matter which way you decide to go, just wanted to provide a long term report on my favorite J Frame holster system.

After Tecrsq's informative post on Smart Carry I went to the website. I ordered one and a bottle of the Bright Sights Green ghost site paint as well. This should be just the ticket for ccw here in sunny Arizona during the summer. It's tough to hide even an IWB when you aren't wearing many clothes. My 649/MP9c are just a tad heavy for pocket carry though the Bersa works well. Hopefully the Smart Carry will accommodate both of the Smith's. Thanks again guys for all of the good info. I'll post back here with pics and a field report as soon as it comes in.

I have to honestly admit, I carry off and on, but with the Smart Carry, I have actually forgotten I was wearing it. The only problem I have with it is gaining access while sitting. I have a "rubber tire" around my middle which really complicates things. I also have a much more expensive IWB that sits in the drawer, in favor of the Smart Carry.

I, too, have quite a belly that makes my pants/belt tighter than I can imagine would be necessary in order to get the firearm out quickly. How would this complicate carrying in this fashion?

You don't want any holster that requires the use of the off hand to draw your weapon.

I work in a "absolutely no weapons" environment mandated by company policy. It's not illegal to carry at my job, but if caught the likely punishment would be termination. It's in the handbook.

That said, I carry my 642 in a SmartCarry every Monday thru Friday from 6:45am to 5:45pm (that includes my commute) and have been doing so for about 18 months. I'll start with the one con I can think of while using this system. It is admittedly slow to draw and hard to draw, particularity when seated at my desk and while driving. It is not impossible but does require practice. Note that pocket carry has the very same limitations for me. The pros for this system of carry are, very deep concealment and comfort. No clips or anything show at my belt line, I can wear any belt including dressy ones, and my shirt can remain tucked in 100% of the time while still allowing direct access to the gun. It took me about a week to get over the new feel of things below the belt, but as the other users have stated, I don't even notice it's there now.

While this is certainly not the ideal carry system it is the system that in my situation, allows me to carry at all which is the most important part of the concealed carry lifestyle.

When I'm not at work I very rarely use the SmartCarry. The only other time I used it when I wasn't at work I was dressed in a suit and tie. So it really fills a specific niche and works well for me.

I understand where you are coming from and frankly - point taken. The other side of this argument is that I would rather have my gun on me, deeply concealed and consequently a tad slower to access than not have it available at all. Tucson summers dictate the wearing of minimal amounts of clothing which creates some serious challenges for CCW both in terms of concealment and comfort. The operative word in CCW is "Concealed". That is what my permit requires and I am happy to comply. Here in Arizona I am free to open carry anytime but frankly it freaks people out and I prefer not to be easily identified as "the guy with the gun", by bad guys or good. YMMV (o;

I have a thunderwear holster that I bought maybe 12 years ago. I can wear it with Glock 27,30 S&W CS-45 with extra mags with a bathing suit and it does not print. I highly recommend it. I don't see any difference in it or the smart carry????

I carry a 642 own at 1 o'clock.... Nearly crotch carry. No issues

Got my Smart Carry this afternoon and am very impressed. The MP9c and spare magazine absolutely disappears. Every bit as comfortable as previously reported. I'll try the 649 next. They point out that if you want to carry something smaller just use a safety pin across the bottom of the holster portion to shorten up the pocket. I'm thinking that this will accommodate the Bersa as well. I particularly like the additional pocket on the left side for a spare magazine or speed strip. I'll do some photos eventually showing how well this thing conceals, you'll have to take my word for the comfort factor. If you are looking for the ultimate in concealability this is the way to go and all for about $50. (o;

I bought a lot of dope using a crotch carry-my 442 was taped to my inner right thigh, no underwear, loose shorts. The Mexican bars I sometimes worked all have border brothers working "security" at the door; these gentlemen will pat you down, but like most males, are somewhat shy about squeezing your wee-wee or jewels. After you're patted down, you can make your desires known regarding your drug of choice while having a cerveza with a nice-looking "trampa". Usually the doorman who patted you down will steer you in the right direction. This carry works well; not a fast draw, but it got me past the shakedowns and into Indian country without disclosing my true intentions.

I think Smartcarry is one of the best options for deep concealment. Sure beats going without a gun!

I have the Thunderware holster which is very close to the SmaryCarry. One observation...With a shirt tucked in, the draw is faster, but I will print if I carry more than a 442 or perhaps a Detective Special. It has to have small grips or it will print. On the other hand, with the shirt pulled out I can carry a full size gun, but the draw is slower because you have to deal with getting the shirt out of the way.

Help me understand something please. Is the gun generally above, at, or below the belt line? I am thinking that if it is at or above the belt line, then how does it not just push outta the little pocket when you sit down or bend over?

Just wondering. Sounds like an unconventional yet successful way to carry concealed from several respectable people here. Just wondering how secure the gun was generally.

Don't know if I would want to carry this way, but I could see some specific niche circumstances where it might come in handy, assuming I could do things without my gun falling to the floor.

Below the belt line generally. Mine has been very secure whether carrying my 340pd/PM9/M&P40C.

I am right handed so reverse if you are a lefty.
I am 6" 225# and found that mine is most comfortable with the gun grip is about 1" below the bottom of my belt, and the barrel of the gun is about 1/2" to the right of my plumbing.

Keep in mind it is basically a jock strap without the strap that goes between your legs, so you can wear it at many different positions. Move it higher or lower, left or right and I have read that some people wear it with the gun at their side (3 o clock).

I bought a thunderware in the mid 90's and am now on my 3rd smartcarry, I think the smartcarry is a little nicer.
