CCW from MI to Gatlinburg Tennessee

This summer my family will be taking a vacation in Gatlinburg TN. and would like to know from any members here that live in or near the area what to avoid and what to do that is fun for the family (ages 2, 7 and adult) the kids won't always be with us, but the guns will.
I am a CPL holder and I know that open carry is not allowed without a permit, but is that a separate permit, or will my CPL cover that as well? (not that I plan on open carry, but you never know what may happen when you bend over to pick up the little ones.

First, get on handgunlaw.us and see what reciprocity exists for the states where you will be traveling.

As far as things to do,

• Lots of kid-friendly stuff in Pigeon Forge, including Dollyville.
• Smoky Mountain Knife Works north of Sevierville is a great place to shop.
• Cades Cove in the Park is about 30 miles from Gatlinburg. It was a pioneer place where time stood still before the park was created. A lot of history, hiking, horseback riding.
• In early- to mid-June, the synchronized fireflies are at Elkmont in the park. Leave from the Visitor Center near Gatlinburg on trams. This is one of two places in the world where you can see these amazing insects. Check on line for best times.
• Elk have been re-introduced to the park in the Cataloochee Valley on the NC side of the park. It would take most of a day for the trip from Gatlinburg. Best viewing is after dawn and before dusk. Lots of other animals in Cataloochee as well.
• If you're going to be on the NC side, the Cherokee Indian Reservation is a nice place to visit. Good local crafts (and a lot of junk), the Oconoluftee Indian Village, and the museum are worthwhile. The best authentic crafts are near the museum.
• There's a good Mexican restaurant by the river on the main drag in Gatlinburg right at the tram terminal/parking garage.

Your CHL covers open carry as well as concealed carry. You're good to go.

Check with the Sevier County DA's office to see if TN will honor you out of state permit. The DA's office can also give you the do's and don't for CCW in TN.
