Default Couldn't wait any longer ...

It has been 8+ week since I sent in my application for an Indiana permit to carry and still no permit. To take the edge off of the pain of waiting I went to a gun show today just to see what was available and for the opportunity to talk to the owners and vendors about the various brands and models on display. Long story short I came home with a brand new S&W 438 Airweight revolver. Now I have to get busy and assemble my cleaning and maintenance supplies as well as figure out how best to safely store it out of reach of small (and large) but curious people. I have been dry firing it while populated with snap caps and really like how it feels in my hand. Looking forward to my first range test.

If this is your only gun go out and buy you a gun sfe that holds a single pistol. You can find then for around $100.00 or so. Find a place to bolt it down that's out of reach for the little ones but keeps it easily accessible to you.

Default ... the relationship begins

I now have the carry permit to go with my new 438.

I am liking the look and feel of this revolver even more than when I first picked it up and I haven't even actually shot it yet. I have been dry-firing it when I get the chance and a small to medium handgun safe is on the list of things to purchase as soon as possible. I have a place picked out where it can be bolted down, not be too conspicuous, and still provide accessiblility if necessary.

Amazon.com and Wallmart.com both have very good prices on GunVault safes, which I believe fit the bill very nicely for what you're looking for. My GunVault Mini perfectly fits a J-frame and a SureFire, and is bolted next to my bed. As fast as I can push the electronic combo buttons, the pistol can be available to me. Yet it is safe from children and all but the most determined thieves.

One can be had for under $100, and if you can afford the pistol and the ammo, you can afford the safe.
