Long Guns

So I think I pretty much well versed on Florida hand gun carry laws. I dont own any long guns. Thinking we moved way rural a few years now may get a 12 ga shotgun for home. In Florida lets say your rural and you have a bump in the night on your property. Are you legally allowed to have let's say a 12 gauge with you fully in plain sight. Being a conceal carry guy for ever just wanted to get heads up on long guns in Florida.

You will need to check the Florida Penal Code.

I would imagine that the open carry/concealed carry handgun rules are very different from the long gun rules. Never confuse the two.

One of the best "Bump in the night" responses I've heard of was a Florida LGS owner who was licensed to own fully automatic firearms and whose home was next to his gun store. When the silent alarm went off, he responded with a 12ga, an M-16, and a 9mm sub-machine gun, IIRC.


I think slinging a long gun over your shoulder on your Florida property is safe.

According to Fl law, as long as you are legal to possess a firearm, have permission to do so on the private property (which I assume you give yourself on your own property) you can open carry anything on said private property.

FL 790.25:
(3) LAWFUL USES.—The provisions of ss. 790.053 and 790.06 do not apply in the following instances, and, despite such sections, it is lawful for the following persons to own, possess, and lawfully use firearms and other weapons, ammunition, and supplies for lawful purposes:

(n) A person possessing arms at his or her home or place of business;
