Default Mika's Pocket Holster for 642

Hi,
I purchased a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster a couple weeks ago and at first didn't think I really cared for pocket carry...(prior to this, had been carrying OWB with a Uncle Mike's hidden hammer belt slide holster)
Anyway, the more I have been pocket carrying the more I have started to really prefer it...

So with that said, what I was wondering if anyone has had a Mika's holster and a Desantis Nemesis holster and what do you find you like or dislike about them?
I am thinking about getting a Mika's, as it appears that it would be a little sleeker in the pocket...I find the Desantis to be quite wide ( I realize this helps stabilize and keep it in the pocket when drawing, but it also seems to feel bulky)...

Thanks for any Help!

First, I'll say that I've found that bulk in the pocket is going to occur regardless, really. You'll end up chasing the ultimate holster trying to save half a millimeter of thickness. I have a box of pocket holsters to prove it.

I have not had a Nemesis for a J frame (had a Keltec P3AT one) but have had a Mika round cut for a J frame. Good holster made by a good man. I used it with jeans or coat pocket carry.
For pocket carry I'm currently using a Tuff Products Pocket Roo with a Safarliand Comp I in the speed strip pocket. Reload and gun together.

I've used both and they both do the job well. You used to be able to get the Mika's with a square or round bottom to fit your particular kind of pockets. The last Mika's I ordered was for a PM9 and he had bulked it up a little from older versions. I'm currently using an Uncle Mike's and it seems to work as well as the others.

I've carried a Mika round edged pocket holster for my M&P340 for years without any problems. I have probably carried it for around 3 years and its still in good shape. Very inexpensive and well made by a great guy. Well worth the money.

I had a Mika's pocket holster for a G26 a few years ago and it was great. I've thought about ordering one for my 638 but I've got another maker in mind.

As far as the Desantis Nemesis, I've had a couple of them and didn't like either one. As far as I'm concerned the best inexpensive pocket holster is the Uncle Mike's or the Blackhawk (same design). Currently I use a Galco Pocket Protector.

I started with the Nemesis and ordered a Mika. Both are good but I prefer the Mika, less bulk and easier to reholster. I kept the Nemesis and use it for the inside chest pocket of my motorcycle jacket. The Mika is the one I grab for pants pocket carry.

I have an Uncle Mike's and a Mika. Both "do the job", but my next one will be another Mika's. I love it.

The Mika gets better the longer you use it.

Thanks for all the replies!
I got antsy with my debate and I ordered a Mika's pocket holster in Round Cut, late last night...
Mr. Mika called me this morning to confirm the order, talk about excellent customer service!
Can't wait to try it out...I figured the Desantis Nemesis is square cut, so went with the Round Cut with the Mika's.

Thanks again for all the Help!

Give the Uncle Mike's #3 a try. I have lots of different pocket holsters (including a Mika's) but I find the Uncle Mike's is the one I use the most. It's 10 bucks or less, depending on who is selling it.

When you get the Mika holster, you will think it is quite bulky. Carry it a week or two and it will conform to the gun and your leg.

I think you will like it.

I just received my Mica for a Ruger LCR last week. I have not yet used it other than a display/demo in an NRA Basic Pistol class.

Default MIKA

I have been using a MIKA round cut for my 642 for a few years. Works well for me in jeans of jacket. Stays put when drawing and easy to re holster.
Use and Uncle Mikes for my P11 Keltec. Works well too.

I have the DeSantis, and the Mika.

In larger pockets, I prefer the DeSantis or the Square cut Mika.

I use the round cut Mika in jeans and jackets.

I have them for all my J frames, as well as a round one and a square cut one for my Kahr PM9.

I would like to see a Mika for the PM9 with a little "tail" on it, to keep the holster straighter in my pocket. It is such a little gun, that with Mika's fine holster, it tilts slightly.

If I could only choose one, it would be the Mika

I received it today and gotta say I am impressed...
So far for me this is perfect. The look is awesome and even autographed...How cool is that.
It fits in my pocket much better (I usually wear jeans). The revolver draws easy, no problems.

I'm stoked...needless to say. Thanks!

What color options did you chose? How about a picture for those who may be unfamilar with the Mika holster?

Looks nice, and I'll bet it feels great in your pocket! Mine is chestnut brown with black thread.

I think you'll like it more each day.

Mika + Model 38 =

My model 38 in a Mika round fits great in cargo pants. It is an inexpensive and fully functional holster.

I have several MIKA pocket holsters, and i always put the newones in my back pocket , empty for a few days when i get it...it seems to get rid of that percieved thickness, after that i carry it normally with a gun in my r front levi pocket....

I have both as well. They both do the job well, but the Mika's feels better, and is lots better for re-holstering. TACC1

Thumbs down Avoid Mika Holsters

For sure, avoid Mika Pocket Holsters. I had a ****** experience with them. I paid for one two months ago and never got it. I reached out to them 3x to ask about my order (using Facebook, email, and their website contact system) and was flatly ignored. They are simply taking my money and not sending a product. Don't buy Mika!

Old thread resurrected, but worth a reply.

His normal delivery can be up to 12 weeks. It says that on his website. My experience has been he takes all 12. According to your post, you’re only at 8 weeks, so you’d be early. He sends an email confirmation when you order. Did you get that?

Also, how long has your email been “ignored” for? He’s a lone guy building holsters. No large customer service organization standing by to take your call. If you’ve been waiting a week for a reply, there could be some other issue and you might want to give him a call. If you’ve been waiting a day, you might want to give it a couple more.

There’s no “them”, it’s Bob Mika. You’re not being ignored and he’s not “taking your money and not sending a product”. Because of his awesome products at a great price, you have to wait. Patience is a virtue.

Bob Mika is a class act!

Just ordered my second holster from him (an IWB for J-frame snub) and understand that the wait will be approximately 3 months.

I went into this transaction with eyes wide open and with clear understanding when I received "the call" from Bob confirming my order.

Bob's products are well worth the wait....

I bought both the round and square cut Mika pocket holsters (to account for different pocket styles) for the 642 and carried it for ~5 years every day. Works great and Robert Mika is a great guy to deal with as well. I also have the Mika for the PM9 and that works just as good as the 642 holster does. Highly recommended.

I've been pocket carrying for a couple of decades. I've tried the Mika, Uncle Mike's and Desantis Nemesis pocket holsters. The Mika is way to bulky. The Uncle Mike's loses shape too quickly. I liked the Desantis Nemesis until a knowledgeable buddy recommended the Black Hawk Tec Grip pocket holster. I was ignorant of their existence. No doubt about it, the Tec Grip pocket holster holds its shape, is very thin and keeps the handgun in place in the pocket better than the others. It is also washable without loosing "stickiness" and is inexpensive.

I have used a Uncle Mike's Model 36 for both my 640-1 .357 Performance Series J-frame and my .380 Shield EZ. The nice thing about this holster it can be used for either pocket carry or IWB.

I have two Mika holsters for the J frame, one round end one squared for different pockets. My wife has a round end.

IMHO Robert Mika is a class act and his holsters are first rate.

I ordered my first holster from Mika recently based on all the good reviews I read. Says clearly on his web site when you order 12 weeks. I was shocked the next day when I had a phone message from him confirming my order, and thanking me for my business. That is great customer service!

I carry a round end Mika Pocket Holster for my 640 when I wear dungarees and found that it is everything I need in a pocket holster, without the added bulk.

This thread caused me to order one for my 642. The price was $35.95 delivered. Mr. Mika called a couple of hours later (Saturday). I don't usually pick up calls from unknown numbers, this one was identified as US Cellular #xx, but I answered this time, fully expecting a spam call. He wanted to assure me that the order was received, that I knew it would be up to 12 weeks for delivery, and asked if I had any questions. I told him that I have lots of patience and just wanted to be sure he had the correct gun model for the order. He informed me that 90% of his business is SW J frames. There was also instant email confirmation of the purchase. Impressive customer service! I can't wait ... oh, yes I guess I can!

This thread reminded me that I need Mr.Mika to make me two Ruger LC9s pocket holsters for my son and myself. And possibly another S&W J-Frame holster.

I emailed him on the contact page on his website today because I had a couple of questions to ask him before I was ready to order and he called me about 11:30 A.M. today, just a short time after the email, to answer my questions. Again, that's today, Saturday June 3, 2018. We spoke for over 10 minutes. Cdmllr73, I'm not sure what's happening with your order. I think you will probably get it soon.

BTW to the OP, I have a S&W round J-Frame Mika pocket holster I got from him in 2007 and it has been fantastic and still looks almost new. Do not be afraid to order one. Depending on how busy he is it might take a little while to get it though.

Now I just need to get my son to commit to kicking in a little money and I'll place the order.

I have had a square and a round Mika pocket holster for about ten years. I have no need for any other brand of pocket holster. Depending on the cut of the pocket, either holster is perfect for model 649 or my model 438. A Mika holster is worth the wait.

I pocket carry daily a 649-2 now that I retired. I have a round Mika for suit pants where the pockets open vertically; I use a Mika square for Levis; and I use a DeSantis Nemesis for large wide pockets found on cargo pants and other work clothing. My best answer to your question is you may need all three as I do, depending on what you are wearing.
