Speed loaders for "J" Frames and ammunition carriers?
Something I do not own - I didn't think about it until yesterday - are 5-shot speed loaders for my 640-1.
In the universe of speed loaders, which ones:
1. Secure cartridges in loader among the most securely?
2. Are the among most impact resistant - as in dropping in the dirt and being stepped on or fallen upon?
***
If there is one or two loaders that is among the best in both categories, please identify them.
**********
Regarding ammunition carriers, I have specially made carriers for both 45-70 and 45 Colt that ride on my gun belt, capture each cartridge in its own loop, and are completely closed when not dispensing cartridges. I am not interested in a carrier for speed strips, though.
Here is a link to my carriers. 7X Leather - Ammo Carriers Click on lower, right hand corner of photos to enlargeClick here to place an order. "The Klein Special" is an improved form of McKeever Box. Is something along these lines, albeit less expensive, available? If something is, again please identify it.

I'll second that.
HKS model 36 for the 5-shot J-frames.
Model DS for the small framed 6-shot guns like the Colt Detective Special.
Model 10 for the 6-shot K-frames.

I've been carrying a drop pouch for a long time.
If anyone has one like this one I'd be interested.

I still have and carry my drop pouch. Holds six rounds in a speed strip and I actually used it one the street to reload during a gunfight in the '70s.

I like Safariland best; for a J-frame, they sit in the front pocket nicely.

I use Safariland Comp I speedloaders. I have dropped them while loaded a few times and so far they've never released rounds unintentionally but have always released rounds when I wanted them to. They're inexpensive enough that I have several loaded around the house and I don't worry about dropping them when practicing reloading. After using them for the past few years they have yet to fail. However, I'm not a fan of using them with Split-Six (-Five) belt carriers because the release mechanism rides on top of the belt. I can see them releasing cartridges if too much pressure is applied when grabbing the loader. I'm not sure how likely that would be, though.
I use Jox speedloader pouches on my belt. Loaded speedloaders won't fall out when I do a shake test but release easily when they're on my belt.
JOX Loader Pouches - Home
I use Tuff Products 6-round QuickStrips (but only load 4 rounds) when I carry strips. One downside is that they do wear out if you practice a lot with them, so I have one set for carry (black) and one for practice (orange).
E.D.C. - QuickStrips
Before the Jox pouches I used a Simply Rugged ammo pouch on my belt. I believe they also make a similar model with individual cartridge loops.
Most Versatile Ammo Pouch - Leather Ammo Pouch
I still use a Side Guard Holsters single Rough Pouch to carry a strip in my pocket.
????????????????
I've heard good things about SL Variant speedloaders, but have never tried them. They are a little more expensive than the Safariland Comp I.

[Note: The website says they're all on back order.]

I have no interest in speed strip-type carriers and carriers for them. You see, I'm not the most graceful gazelle on the planet. My specialties are dropping stuff and having clumsy hands.
My previous experience with Bianchi Speed Strips - I guess the present device's precursor - was poor. I tended to drop the strip, knock one or more cartridges off the carrier while loading, or have cartridges come off in my pocket (when carried loose in front pocket.)

I specifically bought a 442 no lock that was cut for moon clips. I prefer them to speed loaders.

I never said I wasn't familiar with Safariland, I just have a serious dislike for them.
They require precise application of fingertip pressure, too much, or too little, or dirt or liquid on fingers, you're potentially sol. If that's not enough difficult to load (into the speedloader) and more fragile. I will concede they are slightly shorter, but non issue when a SL carrier is used.

My favorite is the jetloader followed by the safariland comp1. The crossbreed holster belt pouch if I have a covering garment and in the pocket if I don't. De Bethencourt has a video on youtube "Speedloaders - Michael deBethencourt" where he goes over the pros and cons of each. During matches I have accidentally released HKS loaders removing them from the carrier so I stay away from them.

HKS speed loaders carried in front pants pocket. Over the years I have tried pouches, speed strips, loose rounds, etc, but speed loader in front pants pocket work better for me

Lobo makes a nice 2x2x2 pouch. Very handy, concealable and secure.
I know you asked about speed loaders, but a pouch was mentioned.

Like the OP, I am not the most dexterous of God's creatures, and arthritis in my hands and wrists have not helped the situation. I struggled with speedloaders, speedstrips, and moon clips, and finally decided on the New York Reload as the fastest and best reload for me. My EDC is as close to a matched pair as I could find at the time - a Model 38-0 and a Model 638-1 both equipped with CT LG-405 laser grips, and carried in DeSantis Nemesis pocket holsters. I carry an 8-shot Tuff Strip speedstrip in a small, nylon belt pouch as well, but just because I'm from the "it's not much of a gun without bullets" school of thought.
Best regards,
Dave

I've had problem with the detent on four HKS for the J frames being to weak and dropping the cartridges accidentally . I've never had problems with the HKS for K's, L's, or N's frames.
My preference is Safariland speed loaders. Never had a Safariland accidentally drop rounds for the J frame. ( or the K, L, or N's either)
And a pouch with speed strips made a nice concealable package that no one even notices.

What is the "New York Reload?" I suspect my autoimmune illness is equivalent to an exaggerated form of yours - with a bunch of additional "stuff" as icing on the cake.
Were there a strip that locks rims within strip until I release the lock (retaining conventional friction-interference) this would be my reloading device of choice. Several could be in pockets with essentially no telltale indicators by way of speed loader bulge. Apparently, I am alone in the universe in believing this locking strip loader is a good idea.

I believe a New York reload is a second gun - a.k.a. a back-up gun (BUG).

Thanks to all of you who replied. I believe I have a handle on what I seek. It is a "2x2x2 cartridge carrier" that affixes to a belt. Without having seen or used one this device appears to be very secure, unobtrusive, and allows me to reload without needing to put "eyes on" to get cartridges. I am nearly certain that bad hands will not cause me to drop or fumble with two cartridges while two cartridges at a time achieves a somewhat faster cylinder reload than one at a time.
1. Does this make sense to you all - who have much more experience with such devices than I do?
2. If it makes sense, please identify leather carriers for 1.5-onch belt that affixes to belt with loops or slots or snaps rather than merely folding over top/cover around the belt.

Hi Naphtali:
Yes, a New York Reload is second, loaded and ready handgun that the user draws and uses instead of trying to reload his empty (just used) handgun. Here is a link to a previous post where I've included photos of my EDC (Every Day Carry).
http://smith-wessonforum.com/138563028-post38.html
By the way, the 2x2x2 ammo pouch was used by the FBI until they went away from revolvers. If you watch the movie "Silence of the Lambs", you'll see the 2x2x2 ammo pouch on the gun belts of some of the agents. Additionally, I believe Dillon (the blue reloading press guy) sells these on his website.
Best regards,
Dave

Five star stainless speed loaders for my 640 and also speed strips. Carrying speedloaders is usually only on the farm, speed strips everywhere and yes I practice with both.
