Sir are you referring to the Smith J frame line in general or are you asking about materials, I.e. stainless Vs. carbon, or finishes Blued Vs. Nickel?

Lobo Gun Leather - Home

I use this style for IWB. The offset clip reduces bulk and I'm pretty sure you can also get it without a reinforced mouth for added comfort/concealability.
This one isn't on his site but he can make it for you..

Check out Tucker if you're looking for a tuckable holster, too. I've got one of his tuckable IWB holsters and it is great. It can be adjusted for ride height and cant and he offers several different types of clips. Great customer service and good pricing and not a super-long wait time.

HTH,

Chris

In my opinion a model 40 is built to carry in your pocket! Thats why it has no outside hammer to snag your pocket! To me putting one in a holster is akin to these guys that ride a bike or small motorcycle wearing a backpack when they easier could tie it to the bike! Of course I always wondered about those guys wearing spandex on a bike to start with!

Feral,
I sort of disagree. A holster keeps it oriented correctly and prevents dust, fuzz and other pocket "nonsense".

I beg to disagree also...I find the j-frame in my pants pocket cumbersome/uncomfortable...with my regular fit Wranglers, the bulge is way too visible...and if I use cargo style pants, the gun flops around a bit against my leg....I always wear my shirts out so an IWB or OWB works best for me...YMMV.

We all arent built the same. I am a huge fat ***. I carried a model 60 with a snubbed hammer on and off for 30 years just in my pocket. I never had a holster for that one. It got stolen along with my truck that I mentioned on another thread, so I replaced it with this old used model 40. At first I tried useing the pocket holster shown, but its too tight and the holster always wants to come out of my pocket with the gun still in it! My best set up was issued uniform coats with a holster sewed right into it from the factory cross draw where the inside left breast pocket is. They had a strap and snap too. Seems they were in my old motorcycle jackets. For some reason it did seem my model 60 was a little more stable in the pocket than my 40. Probley wore tighter pants in those days. I know I could do better with my wide uniform belts packing larger revolvers years ago than I do now with lighter revolvers with holsters on my regular pants belt but thats a different subject.

Default I have tried

almost every way of carrying I have seen or even read about searching for any improvement.
I find the pocket carry is either too tight to draw well , too loose for retention and control, or not where I remembered the pocket opening being when I placed the gun in it.
I also prefer a summer special type belt loop over a clip for IWB. I like the gun so tight in my clothes, it is hard for someone else to remove, but my reaching for it makes the clothing relax.
That is a nice piece of leather work however and since it is working for you it must be a joy to own.

The new Remora is by far the best IWB holster I have ever used.

There is nothing more concealable. Period.

Check the current thread re: the Remora for more info.

Be safe.

Order Clipdraw - The Original Clipdraw for Smith & Wesson (J) Frame Revolvers

I have one on a Model 60. Can't get any more basic than that.

I have one similar to the one from Ray (Lobo Leather) that doesn't have the offset clip, or the reinforced mouth. I'll be ordering one from Lobo soon, that is a very nice holster. No problems with mine, from High Noon Holsters, but I like the offset clip, now that I've used them on other holsters.
