"Expertise" is in the eye of the beholder. No one gets the amount of real-world experience with the aftermath of shootings that cops do. YMMV, but that's the truth.

What makes the .25ACP obsolete is the fact that you can now buy a .32ACP that is nearly the same size as any .25 on the market. I believe the Kel-Tec P-32 is the smallest, lightest semi-automatic pistol currently made (the Baby Browning was smaller but 2oz heavier). And of course the .380s are barely any larger than that. A .32ACP may not be the Thunder Hammer of Thor but it's still noticeably better than a .25ACP.

I keep one in my front pocket and a Cobra in my hip pocket . I hope not to have to depend on the .25 but if the Colt don't do the trick I will go to the FIE . It carries like a pocket watch and has never failed to fire or eject , no it does not have much in the way of knock down power but when I put seven of them little bullets in your face you ain't gonna like it at all .

25 ACP is better than a sharp stick

A neighbor carries a tiny little striker fired (made before Gaston was born) C*** .25acp in his overalls watch pocket. Handy, not sure one of George's miniatures would fit there. An NAA mini does, but I bet the C*** (sorry for the vulgarity) presents faster.

I wasn't disparaging anonymous members, the post I replied to was. Yes, the irony was he was saying not to listen to anonymous people on Internet gun forums yet that is exactly what he happens to be.

Simply being a cop doesn't automatically make someone an expert on defensive shooting or its aftermath although there are numerous extemely knowledgable LEO's on the subject, many of whom have become instructors in the private sector. I'm not aware of any that would recommend the .25 ACP as a primary carry weapon or probably not even as a backup weapon.

Try to make sure the first shot goes in the eye socket. You may just save the remaning shots.

Here's my only .25 at the moment. I've had a couple of Berettas and one lowly Raven. This is an FN, the same gun as made by Colt and sold as the Vest Pocket Pistol.



Even with the tiny sights, it will still hold a decent group at ten yards or so.



When I was in New Orleans, two cops were killed in less than 24 hours, each by a single round of .25 ACP. Joey Thomas was my then-partner's former partner, so I knew him a little. He was on a drug raid and took the round just over his body armor. The boys shot the guy to shreds, then Joey said - Hey, he hit me. He died in the ambulance.

The other was a newer guy I didn't know. He responded to a prowler call and opened the door to a back yard shed and was shot by a nutcase. At that time, NOPD didn't issue vests, and he was saving up to buy one. He had a bunch of kids, and NOPD didn't (and still doesn't) pay well, so he hadn't gotten his yet. He died almost instantly, and never got a shot off in return. The bad guy shot a police dog, but somehow survived his arrest experience. I did this officer's Public Safety Officer Benefit's package for his family. At the time the DOJ required the FBI to do the submission to ensure the case met the requirements.

Well, since this thread is about my age I might as well jump in. I only have one .25, shown below with its bigger brother. Not my primary gun, not my secondary gun, I bought it ‘cause it was Belgian and it was so cute. It’s so small that I can barely hang onto to it to shoot. I confess that I have carried it a few times, and it really is a fine little shooter. It sure isn’t my first choice as a defensive weapon but I’ll happily use it if it’s the one I happen to have along and circumstances require.
