Thumbs up New NRA Backed Bills in Texas House & Senate

Recent Information from NRA-ILA emails.

The good news keeps on rolling here in Texas. Two new Senate and House bills pertaining to expanding concealed carry rights were filed this week in the Texas legislature.

If passed, SB 321 would prohibit Texas employers from enforcing policies against the storage of lawfully-owned firearms in employees' private motor vehicles parked at work. SB 354 would allow Concealed Handgun Licensees to protect themselves on college and university campuses in Texas. Two matching bills (HB 681 & HB 750) were also filed in the Texas House earlier this week so it looks like these new laws should pass easily through committee and be adopted by the end of September 2011.

Two more great reasons to live in Texas!

BTW - If you live here in Texas contact your state Senator and Representative and tell them to support both bills.

As a frequent visitor to TX and one who works in the state several times a year, I am waiting to see if these new bills gets passed and if Gov Perry approves them. I would much prefer to see open carry but it has been voted down many times and now I do not think any legislators are willing to bring it up.

Congrats to Texas. That said... Texas needs to take a look at their silly open carry laws. I was floored to learn that Texas, home of the sixgun, ranches and rangers, doesn't have open carry!

This has been tried before and failed. The TSRA has been clear that business interests have blocked them for liability concerns. With a conservative legislature - will they stand for the RKBA or suck up to the money. The TSRA isn't so sure that guns beat money from so-called RKBA supporters. They clearly stated if this fails, you can't do the liberal rant but look money and liability prostitutes in the eye.

So don't hold your breath.

We got the parking lot bill passed in OK, but the college campus carry fell short. Good luck in TX.
