Kramer speed scabbard question
Any of you carry k frames in a kramer speed scabbard pancake style holster? I have one for a 19/66 2.5" barrel. It's a great holster and built like a tank. My question is, I am used to a revolver holster that does not have a hammer shield at the top of the holster to shield the hammer. The shield when wearing the holster tends to poke the cover garment out and almost cause a point sticking out under the shirt. Without this shield, the revolver conceals nicely with other holsters. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, was there something you did to overcome this conceal issue with this or other holsters with the hammer shield?

I have the Desantis version of that holster, like in the photo below, but mine is tan in color. I carry a S&W #64 or #65, both 3" HB, RB's. You are correct in that the top outer edges of the holster print under a light shirt or snug sweater. I carry it hiking, so I usually am also wearing a vest. A good belt helps alot by keeping this rig close to the body.

I've used them for J's and N's. With the N's, it's with a jacket. Only way to do it. With the J's, I haven't had any problem under an oversize tshirt.

Where do you position the holster? You might experiment with slightly different placements, to find the best all around position. Also consider what type of garment you're wearing to cover the weapon.
I have used the Kramer scabbard for both K and J frames and did not experience this problem. I wore the holster (strong side) just behind the hip.
Another option is to call Kramer up...I found the staff very helpful. Maybe they can help you solve this problem.

Thanks for the replies. I did call Kramer and they said they make them that way because their customers have requested that. They said the only option would be to cut it off, which isn't really an option. I thought about trying the vertical scabbard with a rake. Anyone experience those? I really like the belt scabbard, it's just that the hammer shield curves outward at the top and causes the shirt or cover garment to poke out in a point.
Photoman, does the j holster have the hammer sheil and does it curve outward at the top?

I have the same holster in Horsehide (my all-time favorite holster) for my M60 J-Frame and have never had this problem. Maybe the trick is to wear a looser shirt. Is it possible that on your particular holster the shield was molded too far out? Are they willing to inspect it and try and form it a little tighter inward? If you cut it off, the hammer spur will most definitely get caught on your shirt, so give them antihero buzz and see if they will go over the holster and try to contour the shield in a bit.
Just a thought.............

chief, thanks. It "appears" the shield was molded for a m19 with target grips. I've replaced them and the new ones are thinner so there is a gap and the top of the hammer shield turns outward. This makes the holster wider at the top than I'm used to. I've had another holster that does not have any shield on it and I haven't had any issue with the hammer catching on clothing and the holster conceals much better. This is the horsehide holster and it's very nice and built like a tank. I'm gonna wear it for a while, trying different positions and see if it breaks in any and conceals better. I do want it to work out.

jtmo3,
As far as I know it should not be a problem for Kramer Leather to re-mold the shield. Why should you have to suffer through this - let them re-mold it to your liking. It is an expensive and well made holster that should last you for many many years, so it might as well be right.
When it comes to "fit" I am an absolute fusspot and that would drive me nuts. They should be able to help you out.

Thanks again. I will wear it a couple days more and see how it works out I guess. You know how it goes. You wait a long time for a holster and once you have it, you want to use it and hate the thought of sending it back for another 2 or 4 weeks or whatever. You are correct though that it is an expensive holster and it should be right. I do believe it was done right, just different than the revolver I'm putting in it with the grips on it. I'm not faulting Kramer. It is what it is. Years ago, I had an Alessi that is almost identical to this holster, except the hammer shield did not turn outward at the top like this one does. It was harder to conceal than one without the shield but didn't cause the point like the Kramer.
Ya, you're not alone in being a fusspot about holsters and fit. I guess that's why most of us have a drawer or box full of holsters.

Yup! You are 100% correct on the Drawer full of holsters! Now I know why so many Gun Shops have a $5.00 Bargain Barrel of holsters in their stores.

It was in the bargain box of several store that I have found Kramers, Milt Sparks, and Alessi and others. Many stores simply take in a trade and then immediately put the holster into the "Box" for an additional profit. Some of them really are $5.00 and yes that is what I have paid for some VERY nice holsters for the herd.

At our private range, I walked into the Clubhouse last month and what I found were two huge 55 gallon plastic garbage bags full of brand new in the package HOLSTERS! Apparently, one of the local Gun Shops had recently gone out of business and rather than throw them out, the owner (a member of our club) decided to leave them for the taking. Three other members and myself opened up and went through the bags containing at least 200 holsters of all different designs, makers and types, and after a half hour we found ourselves slowly putting all the holsters back into the garbage bags. I could not believe it, but out of the four of us, only one member took two holsters, and he took them for parts rather than to actually use the holsters themselves. I guess these were the left over holsters that he could not sell over the years in his store.
I guess after one carries a gun for a number of years and after trying a bunch of different designs and styles, we all start a drawer of only used a few times, holsters. I know I certainly have mine! The Kramer Horsehide Belt Scabbard is now my daily favorite, and quite frankly, at the present time I feel it is about the best I have ever tried. Just thought I would mention this.

Yes, a bit. This aids in reholstering.

And that doesn't cause you any problem with concealing it? Maybe I'm just being too paranoid.
