my wife has a choice of guns to carry but usually she puts the Glock 42 in her carry purse, I replaced the sights with a set of tru-glo's and she loves the new sights, she likes her Angel blue pk 380 put I hate cleaning that light blue frame after firing, and she has a sig 290 she is beginning to shoot, but the glock 42 is her go to gun.
my daughter on the other hand will not give back my early 38spl. short barrel model 649 ,regardless what I offer her, she has refused the same gun in an air weight 357, stating she likes the weight and performance of the heavier 649

125lb male German Shepherd, Remington pump shotgun on the floor alongside the bed, paired with a G19 under her pillow. But unless they shoot it, they aint getting past that dog. He's a pure beast.

My wife doesn't carry but her preferred home defense weapon is a Model 19 we purchased in Germany in 1976. She is quite familiar and proficient with it.

The M&P Compact .22 is a sweet handgun. It is well made (better than than standard model IMO) and runs on anything it's fed. It even runs flawlessly with CCI SV and is head and shoulders above most other rimfire autos in its class.

Me and Ms. Shinbone both have CCWs for Colorado and Utah. That combination allows us to carry in something like 37 states.
So far, she is content to let me do the carrying. I am slowly increasing her skills with a hand gun, though, and hope she will decide to carry for herself, soon.
For now, her nightstand gun is a S&W M64 with 4" barrel. It is a police trade-in gun.

Actually, the gun my wife likes and trusts most is a 1911. More specifically, it's the 1911 that I carry and she wants me behind the trigger.
I've worked with her a lot. For herself, she likes the Browning Hi-Power and the M&P 9c. But she's not a gun enthusiast. She'd just as soon I dealt with whatever. This is just life.

My wife is the same as Rastoffs, she can shoot and does go with me often but it is just not her thing. Once while shooting I took my bedside gun, a Ruger SP101, short barrel .357mag to the range, she wanted to try it, she decided that was the one she wanted for her side of the bed. Not wanting to lose it, I went and bought her a new one just like it. Everybody's happy.

My wife told me if I bought a new gun I had to sell an old gun. Off I went to the gun show and, sure enough, came back with a new gun. When she asked me what I'd sold, I told her the truth: I'd sold my 4 inch S&W Model 629 .44 Magnum. Nomenclature is lost on her, so she asked which one that was. I described it, and her horrified reaction was, "You sold MY GUN?" Turned out whenever I was away (which was a lot courtesy of the US Army) she loaded it with Winchester .44 Special Silvertips and kept it on the nightstand. So, I laid out all my revolvers (She doesn't like "guns that shoot back.") and told her to pick one, praying that she wouldn't commandeer the newest acquisition! She looked them over and pointed at the 4 inch former PD S&W Model 681 with Crimson Trace grips that I was planning to use as a work gun. "That looks like my gun," she says. I showed her how the laser worked and told her it was sighted in at 25 yards with Remington 125 grain SJHP .38 Special +P ammunition. She smiled and said, "Thank you!" I haven't so much as handled it once in the last decade except to change the batteries in the grips.
Whenever I hear some guy say, "I want to get a little gun for my wife," I just shake my head. Yeah, I'm the guy whose wife carries a 4 inch service revolver. Then, again, I've been married to her for 43 years.

My wife is not a gun gal by any means, but is fairly well versed in using a revolver and her gun of choice used to be a 3" model 60, but after seeing her panic and keep wanting to cock it during what we thought might be a possible home invasion, I switched it out for a 640. After getting her CCW, it proved too heavy for all day carry and she has since gone to a 642.
I agree with the points Mas makes in this article... The Real Ladies Gun -- Handguns

Excellent points, and good article, MisterX, and after spending 40 years as a firearms instructor, I agree with most of what Mas has to say as well. I'll probably get into hot water over what I'm about to say but here goes: As a general observation, I have had more luck "instructing" women than men. This is not always the case, but women are more generally amenable to instruction than men. Men are more likely to believe that they were born knowing how to shoot, and are thus reluctant to accept that anyone might know something they don't, and so are more resistant to accepting new techniques or strategies. Women are usually more willing to learn a new skill without feeling that it somehow makes them inferior that they weren't born knowing how to shoot well.
With that said, my GF is a pretty good shot, and since I have lots of different kinds of handguns available, and she could have taken her pick of any of them for her own, I think that it is interesting to see which one she chose. Remember, I have semi autos, in half a dozen calibers, and dozens of revolvers in everything from .22 up to .44 Mag.
She chose a model 10 snubby 2" .38 Special. This is a gun that she feels that she can shoot well, and the weight of the steel K frame gives her confidence and control, and allows more practice with less discomfort. She has a broad range of loads to choose from, and she knows that I reload for the caliber and there is always plenty of ammo for practice. We live out in the boondocks, so she can shoot anytime she wants to.She loves this gun. Also, she has some physical problems with nerve damage, and this gun is one that she handles best.
She has already ran off one would-be burgler with it. I'll probably never get it back now.

Hell yes.
I've seen a much higher percentage of competent women than men. Including a fair few that I sure wouldn't want to mess with.

As soon as she saw my M134 she said "That one." Finding a holster was the hard part . . ..

My wife shoots a Glock 42 pretty well and has kept one in her nightstand for the past few years.

Ruger LCP. Actually she claims all my guns. She says something like "What's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine as well."
