Default Anyone do this?

Whenever I switch from my P229 for EDC (which is rare) to either my 5903 or Beretta 92fs I simply disengage the safety prior to holstering which basically makes it the same as my 229. Anyone have any pros or cons on why I should or should not do ths? Thanks in advance for any comments.

I never carried DA/SA pistols with the safety on, I treat them like DA revolvers.

Mas Ayoob has recently written that he's only aware of one case in which a police officer with her pistol on safe had it used against her after disarming by a criminal. So, there might be a usefulness to the safety for security considerations, particularly if one has to carry one's weapon openly in crowded public areas.

That said, I carry concealed and I've never carried a DA semiauto with a safety on.

I only put the safety on when it's in my nightstand because I'm such a sound sleeper. I would hope I'd snap awake at the sound of an intruder, but who knows. Plus I'm left handed so it's awkward to operate the safety one handed.

For me, a safety on a DA auto is strictly a decocker.

yes on M9s (beretta 92f). As a matter fro fact, I was recently told that in Ft Lewis WA, where I am stationed, it is post policy for security and law enforcement personnel to carry their berettas safety off. Don't know if this is true but everyone does it

I always left the safety off when I had my 4596. Like Sip said, I just used it as a decocker.
