Default Product evaluation of mag carrier from PSS

http://www.psholsters.com/
  • How it's made: 2 pc black kydex, held together by 9 riveted holes equally space around 3 closed sides of carrier
  • What it holds: 10 round mag of .40 S&W
  • How much it weighs: approx. 3 oz - empty
  • How it's worn: OWB
  • Dimensions: 3 3/4" W x 3 7/8" L x 1 1/4" thick (from outer edge of (2) belt clip held by 4 screws, to outer edge of carrier).
  • Opening for mag: 1" x 1 1/2"
  • Length of mag from bullet tip to end of finger ext.: 4 1/4"
  • Depth of mag into carrier: 2 1/2"*
  • Total length from bottom of carrier to exposed finger ext.: 5 1/2"**
Mag carrier is very well constructed. When cinched with belt, it stays snug to side of body. Since it is a OWB carrier, it does not require additional length on belt or waist size of pants. There is a slight concavity to the inside of the carrier. I prefer wearing it at 9 o'clock position.

Overall evaluation
Comfort: OWB - 3, IWB - N/A. Tried wearing it at 8 o'clock position and it was very uncomfortable AS I got into my car due to it pressing against my back. No such problem at 9 o'clock. *Recommend increasing the depth of mag into the carrier an additional 1/2" to 3/4", if possible. The exposed portion of the mag still tended to poke me in the side.

Concealability OWB - 4: Snug fit does help with concealability if covered with shirt or jacket, however, the mag can be seen if exposed (vs. Uncle Mike/Walmart nylon carrier with velcro flap).

Mag fit/retention - 3 The mag is essentially retained by gravity, however, when inverted the mag will drop out if carrier is lightly shook. A greater depth in mag may/might increase retention.

"Drawability" of mag - 4: slightly higher to reach in order to remove the mag from carrier**. Large "footprint" when mag is in carrier.

Total: 3.5*

*For "tactical" or competitive use(s), this is an excellent mag carrier. The mag can be quickly accessed and is easily removed. However, when I CCW, I do not need to frequently access/remove my mag. In the unlikely event that I may need an extra 10 rounds, I will have to take my chances by adding about 1 to 1.5 seconds to access/remove my mag with the way I currently carry it.
