Default Point Shooting Practice..OUTDOORS!!

Went to the range today, and exercised four guns.
I've been practising point shooting at home, with snap-caps, during
the winter. Thanks to ogilvyspecial for steering me in the right
direction. Back issues keep me from too much upright practice,
but I managed to get some rounds downrange. .25 auto, a 38DA
Perfected, a .32 Hand Ejector, and a 442 snub. These all point well
for me, and when airing them out, they were all right on at 10 yards.
That was good, but putting some rounds downrange w/o worrying
about frost-bite was even better. I'm ready for Spring! TACC1

Yep, that time of year up here in the north, put away the overcoats and untuck the shirts.

I practice at an outdoor range, even in the winter. I usually have it to myself, and I can practice SD draw 'n shoot drills. I just don't take too long. That is where I found out that my one pair of winter gloves were too heavy. When I got to my 642, I could squeeze my finger inside the trigger guard, but after pulling it the trigger wouldn't reset - not enough room with the added glove thickness.

But yes, a nice sunny afternoon makes me think of getting to the range before the crowd, take my time with several targets and my EDC firearms.

Any time spent on the range shooting is time well spent and is always enjoyable.

I've been trying for months to find someone to let me shoot on their land, I only practice on an indoor range right now...so no draw&shoot and- I got fussed at for holding the gun down low, raising and firing as fast as I could. They said I had to shoot from at least high-ready. Guess I understand it, some folks would take it to extremes if they allowed me to do it. But really wanta practice the quick-shoot without aiming more- maybe soon. To the OP hope your spring somes soon- and oldman- can't tell ya how many times I've said, when leaving the range- wow, what a great way to spend 20-30 bucks, and a long lunch-hour.

You might check with SC Dept. of Natural Resources for
public land in your area. There might be land that's being
used by the public for hunting and/or target shooting.
There're a couple places near me that are used for
shooting.
There might be an option to join a gun club that allows
access to members whose premises are not staffed on a
regular basis, such as a trap-shooting club, that has a rifle
or pistol range as part of the facility.
Either of those options would allow you to get practice
without frightening off other shooters. There're ranges here that
restrict us to slow fire. At least they are useful in bad weather.
Good luck. TACC1

I guess living in a rural area has some benefits. My club membership is $15 per year; it only has an outdoor range, but I can shoot any time, no additional fee, and usually I'm the only one there. I can practice 2 second draw & shoot drills with my EDC and BUG, from my knees, behind the bench, around the corner, I even practice shooting after getting 'knocked down.' I am fairly proficient at hitting my 8x8 targets at 4-7 yards. I can even set up 2 different 8x8 targets at different distances and heights and pretend there are 2 miscreant targets. THIS is fun!

Just don't ask me to hit anything small at 25 yds...

I just got in a SureStrike from Laser-Ammo - it's the size of a cartridge. You chamber it and when the firing pin hits the switch (where the primer would be) a short red laser burst comes down the barrel. I can do point shooting practice indoors all I want and overall the batteries cost me less than the cheapest ammo I can ask for (plus less noise and no holes in the walls).
