Anyone have any estimates on how long it takes Utah to process non resident permits?

Just under 60 days for myself and everyone else I've read that applied for one. Almost all of these, including myself, were out of state, and did everything through the mail.

Don't forget that effective May 11, they have new rules, so read them and make sure your application is solid.

As a Utah certified instructor, I have had quite a few students call me over the last 2 weeks saying that their apps are being rejected because they waited too long. Not sure why people are waiting until the last minute to file for their permit. I always tell them in class that they have one year from the class date to apply. Now with the change about having your home state permit (for some ppl.), more are getting kicked back for not including all of the paperwork. Some are sending military id's instead of DL's, etc

I'm sure that issue is causing a traffic jam, which in turn slows down the whole process for everyone else.

This is the rule I was referring to. I *assume* that the application form has been modified accordingly, but haven't looked lately. I got mine so I'm good to go for 5 years or however long it lasts.

Yes, it has been modified since the law took effect but since the training is good for a year, many people are still turning in the old apps with the instructor's signature and they were unaware of the change. It'll be a slow process to get everyone up to speed.

Thanks for the info, I'm enrolled to take a course locally here in the PRNJ to satisfy UT's requirements which includes the training, application, finger prints, photo, etc and the school verifies that the application and all are filled out correctly and sends all applications in a group package. They also do FL, but FL is more expensive and a longer processing time and costs more on the renewal. UT's ccw is also recognized by more states. The upside to FL though is that they will take a copy of a DD214 as proof of qualified training. I'd actually prefer to have the UT permit due to traveling to the Logan area for business several times a year.

Took mine 7 weeks and 2 days from the day I mailed it into UT until the day I received my non-resident permit in the mail. I ended up turning in my NV (resident), FL (non-resident) and UT (non-resident) all on the same day and UT ended up taking the longest, even though it stated on it's site that it had the shortest expected turn around time of the three states. LOL

Keep in mind that they have about 6 people processing between 12,000 and 20,000 apps a month.

I'm from NJ myself. I'll actually be up thataway in August doing a Utah permit class in nearby Scranton, Pa.

Oh, I wasn't complaining. I can totally understand that it's a lot to deal with all the background checks and go through all the paperwork and I'm sure that the majority of the applications are filled out incorrectly and all that. So, I feel for them. I'm just happy that mine went through without a hitch. I was just letting the OP know how long it took in my particular instance compared to the two other states I also filed in.
