Orangeburg, SC Woman Kills Robber/Rapist With .22
I believe the CCandSD forum is absolutely the correct place for this one. Illustrates a carry option not available to men. I would like to know just what kind of "derringer type" handgun she used. Also would like to know what load, whether .22 mag, .22lr, solid, hp, etc. I am guessing it was an NAA revolver . . . just a guess. After practicing with mine, I can assure you that it ain't a toy, and that it is indeed possible to shoot one with some degree of combat accuracy.
Wanted man killed by clerk

Thank God she prevented her own rape and I am sure murder. I hope she can get through this horrible trauma. It is horrific that people have to live in a climate like this.
I would love to have a derringer, any decent brands out there? They just have a "cool" factor for me.

from his photo he looked like a six bullett kind of guy. amazing what that pesky little .22 can do....perhaps it may end the endless debate of what caliber is best....cause the best is the one that hits the target square in the control alt delete zone. as Mr wannabe rapist found out.!!!!!!!!

Just what I was thinking. We've talked endlessly about firepower, comparing calibers and loads and discussing which is better for self defense. Along comes a gal with a .22 and with one shot drops the perp. Now I look at my .38 snubby and say "and look what your little brother did with just one well placed shot". As some others have said, better the .22 in your hand than the .45 you left at home.

I recommend the...
High Standard .22 Magnum also. I carried one as a BU for over 5 years and still have it. I used to joke that if you missed with the bullet, you'd burn the perp to death. Lots of fire!

I myself carry a NAA in .22 mag/lr and with the mag cylinder,I only had to pull it once on a perp. He gave up and did as I asked. When the police officers came, they smiled. The perp died a month later from being shot with a .22 short. Lead poisioning.

Excellent ending to a frightening story.
The little .22 did the trick, one might say the perp in this case was definitely Busted.

A couple of notes...
1. lets see if the hotel chain retains her as an employee, or if they can her in the coming days, for violation of some workplace rule of theirs.
2. Shot in the chest with a .22, that means that the perp likely had a few seconds to a few minutes of time to recognize he had been shot down, before he lost consciousness. As compared to a brain hit that instantly makes the perp unaware. I like it!

Steve, as you well know there is also the mental part of being shot. Many people have died from non fatal wounds simply because their brain told them they were shot and dying.
There are people that will shake off a hit or multiple hits from a .22 and take the mouse gun away from the shooter. I have seen guys that were high on some drug take hits from larger calibers while still being aggressive. It is not just the caliber, the placement or the number of shots as much as it is the mental and physical conditioning of the person shot.
That said, I want to increase my odds by using a .45acp with 230 gr JHP and hitting prime areas with multiple shots.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've dealt with people on acid that felt no pain, literally. That comment about the .45, perhaps the best cartridge for police work and cc, gave me an idea for another (new) post. My comment regarding the .22 simply meant that it was better than nothing and a well placed shot, to the head or heart, with a .22 will stop anyone, on drugs or not.
