Was this in MD, where notifying is not the law? If so, you are admitting to abuse of authority.
And the reason why many are reluctant to notify in states where it is not required.

Oh my God! Are you kidding? And you wonder why anyone would be reluctant to tell a LEO he has a gun?
Were you a MD cop and was immediately informing a LEO the law???

Nope. But don't understand your question. If, in fact, you are asking a question.
Be safe..

As dense as you seem to be. Wherever it was you were in law enforcement, as you don't seem to recall, they are better off without you.

Bear with me...
First, when I was working as a LEO and identified a person carrying a "concealed" weapon whilst interacting with that person I absolutely treated him/her as a suspect. Why he/she didn't want me to know he/she was carrying always roused my suspicions, and they always found themselves at gunpoint and usually proned out/handcuffed. They absolutely knew I was a LEO conducting official business thus my suspcicion when I saw they were armed.
When a person advised me up front they were carrying I always asked for their permit/credentials. Though I was a bit cautious that never escalated to drawing my gun except when the person then "admitted" they weren't carrying lawfully. Yes, that happened on myriad occasions...both scenarios.
Yes, I scoped out many a gun...both those carried lawfully and those carried illegally. There are, indeed, "tells." (And given the fact that many leave a gun laying on the seat, under the seat, etc., it's not hard to find them.)
Twice in the last year I have interacted with on-duty LEO's, and I advised them I was carrying. Their reactions were as mine depicted above. In neither case was I required to advise. Frankly, I don't expect folks to do something I wouldn't/don't do.
I don't recall ever unloading a gun at the scene...that includes illegally carried guns.
Did I miss anything? Likely some of you won't be happy but simply stating facts.
Be safe.

Obviously a power tripper with NO BUSINESS being involved in Law Enforcement.

Your reading/comprehension skills seem a bit limited. Your insults thus don't trouble me.
Now done with this thread.
Mods, please take notice. Thank you.

And people wonder why I won't tell an LEO that I'm carrying during a simple traffic stop.
Power trip indeed.

Sorry Big D, I thought my response was obvious, it was to the quote you had, which I will post again. (It is up above this writing, in the grey box.) This is what blows my mind and I'm sure makes others here extremely concerned....
You said plain as day if someone did not inform you that they had a gun on them, (which is a permitee's right in many many states) that if and when you noticed they had a gun on them, you would draw your weapon and prone them, and cuff them.
I think many of us are alarmed at what you said. This is the type of reaction we want to avoid at all costs, and the reason why many of us don't believe informing an officer may be the best thing to do. Some officers fly off the handle and make a huge deal of a legally carried weapon on a citizen. We have no idea who is approaching our window and we have good reason to fear for our lives also (again as evidenced by many viral videos coming out.)
At the very least, showing a permit to the wrong cop can extend the stop, may result in losing your weapon for a few minutes or a few days, and may increase your chances of getting a ticket instead of a warning.... How do we know if the cop stopping us is a good cop or a power tripping bozo?

dwever:
If you do not assume EVERY person you stop is armed then you should start thinking that way.

I have not been stopped here in TN since I started carrying, but I made the decision that I would hand the officer both my DL and my permit together out of courtesy, even though we have no duty to inform.
But if I decided not to inform, I would still be within my rights as a law-abiding citizen. If an LEO reacted the way you are describing, I would be contacting an attorney, and would be doing everything in my power to have that LEO permanently relieved of his duties.
There is simply no excuse for that kind of behavior.

Gotta say, I'm startin' to wonder about what I'd do. I was pretty dead-set on being polite, not taking a chance, and simply saying "I have a permit and I'm armed, what should I do?" I still think, in SC, it's the way to go but...wow...prone and handcuffed does not sound comfy.
