No, but it did cost me $10 to get removed. But that's cheaper than a $300 barrel

Default My two bits on this one

Back in my days in LE. I carried a Hi Power (Belgium) before the intro of other high capacity mags. I still have the weapon and would not think of selling.

Only negative I did not like the mag safety set up. No mag no action. Also my Hi Power has the factory medalist sights. These tore up the inside of my sport coat.

A little bit of negative for an excellent weapon. Highly recommend one for carry

I have used a .40 caliber Hi Power as my duty weapon for the last few years. When the department said that they wanted to. Go to a .40 and I could not carry my .45 anymore, I went with the Browning. Since we had to supply our own weapon, I wanted to stay with a single action. It shoots better than me!

OIF2, great looking Hi-Power! When I see yours, it makes me think I will keep mine, rather than trade it back to the friend I traded it from. What is the finish? Is it parkerized or is that GunKote? That's how I envisioned redoing mine, along with changing out the blade sight to something more visible. Along with Navridex grips. Mine does not have the commander style hammer, although I would like that feature.

Here's a couple that were parkerized. It's a tough and easy to maintain finish. Keep oil on it and it absorbs it. Parkerizing is also relatively cheap. And it looks great, in a business-like way. The secret is in the prep work.
Bob

Parkerized MK III forged frame. I added the rowel hammer and the Novak sights.

One of my favorite BHPs...an Israeli surplus gun I had reparked. I also had the rear sight notch opened up and the mag safety removed. An excellent shooter and service pistol.

I bought my B.H.P. in the mid 60's when I was flying for what was then; The 'Army Security Agency' MACV. The .45's they were issuing were just pure, well picked over, junk - left over from the Korean war and most did not function reliable basis. Many of the Army air crews bought the B.H.P.'s for there own use an carried them on a daily basis. I carried my Belgian made BHP for years in a shoulder holster during the service and fired it often in practice.

It is a wonderful example of form following function. A masterpiece to carry and shoot plus I always trusted it - but, loaded, it is heavy. It still love shooting it and is my preferred automatic at the range since it just feels great in the hand. Now, a little older and living in a warmer climate, it turns out to be a lot heavier ! Now My CCW is old Model 36 in a Sneaky Pete Holister. If it's an old BHP one you've got, give it a rebirth with new springs. I was always happy with mine.

The ammo offered today is anemic at best. I have some IMI 9MM +P carbine ammo that is sufficient. Bargain 9mm ammo suxx for speed, let alone power. Critical defense or double tap should be ok, but it is not where it should be power-wise, as when the cartridge was incepted. A 16 pound spring(in my Beretta) and 1400-1450 FPS is good 9MM ammo in my opinion. Those HP's can be darned sexy pistols when set up properly. Again, JMO
Wow. When you have 1450 FPS you are running with the big dogs! (That is at the high end of the standard loads for .357 Magnum!) Although I like the Browning HP, I am not sure that this outstanding design can endure much of that, especially when we consider some of the older versions. Comments? (Let us have data and photographs here, with primary source data. No third hand reports of what your cousin's girlfriend heard in that bar in Peking! Default Great for IWB

Due to its slide configuration and slimness at the slide, the BHP carries exceptionally well and comfortable when carried IWB. I think it is one of the easiest full size guns to carry concealed. My 1911 is heavier through the slide and my Glocks and M&P are not as comfortable for easy IWB carry.

I love my BHP, but the wife loves it more. Whenever she is around I never get to the shoot the little pistol....Great gun, carries in my Aker 186a for my 1911's and I use the Aker B-21 gun belt. Put a set of fiber optic sights on it for the wife, but I still have the night sights in the safe.

Glad so many like the BHP.....It deserves the praise. Some time the oldest still is the best...John Moses knew his stuff...Glad this thread was resurrected.

And since you were so insightful and resurrected this fine thread, I believe a pic or 2 is in order ...

I'll start with the same .40/.357 MkIII as pictured in my last (08/13) post...only now it wears Novak (1911) NS ...

I've got two, and I've done it briefly from time to time. It's reasonably comfortable, and if you can find a reasonably comfortable way to carry it concealed, and have trained with it, there's not a thing wrong with it in my opinion. Excellent handgun, in fact.

I've found that to be the case as well, even if I do have one Milt Sparks VMII for each. I could easily sell the one for the High Power and make due perfectly well with the VMII for the 1911.

I feel exactly the same way about the thumb safety on the High Power. It was designed before the whole system for civilian concealed carrying a cocked and locked gun was developed, i.e., it was designed as a secondary weapon in war. I think this partially explains it. It was a happy coincidence that the 1911 has a nice snappy thumb safety, and that's been made good use of in developing systems for training with it as a primary self-defense weapon.

Made (sold by) A. G. Russell Knives in Springdale. Arkansas. This one, with stag grips, is a late 1970s version of the "Sting".

They are back in their catalog now after not being made for several years. Nice size boot knife, have carried one for many years.

I have a Belgium in almost perfect condition.... Actions by (T) Sugerland Tx. I wanted to replace the target sights with Novak's but it is spot on..Shoots point of aim...better than expected...Hate to mess with it..Would love slightly thinner grips and Novak sights...Just hate to mess with the point of aim....Love it, love it....It is an oldie but goody....Obviously I'm not the only fan of the BHP...Don't get me wrong I like Commanders, and S&W model 39-2 also, the Browning is just special..

Default Those who carry it...

Gentlemen.
What is a good IWB holster for carrying the Browning HP?
Also, who can you recommend to install a SFS trigger system(Cylinder & Slide)? I've heard Jim Hoag is the best, but also heard that he's gotten senile and very slow in his later years and work is not the same quality.

Thanks!

The gold standard for IWB carrying the BHP is the Milt Sparks Summer Special, just my opinion.

There are many good IWB holsters. It's worth noting that any that will fit the M1911 will almost always also fit the BHP.

Cylinder and Slide did my FEG custom High Power, and did a great job on the trigger. As I recall I had to get on a waiting list; they called me after a couple of months to ship it, and it was returned promptly after that.

Very nice all you need and nothing just for show.....Just out of curiosity did you have any tuning of the safety??? I never felt the need but some that I have faith in have said it makes a lot of difference...Just curious..

C&S did a fine job in all respects; the safety is positive in both up and down positions. I had marred the upper surface of the slide inadvertently, so they re-matted the top and refinished the slide, with no extra cost to apply the forward serrations - I didn't specify that in my instructions, but what the hey - it was free. The beavertail was done flawlessly, and makes the pistol a pleasure to shoot with no possibility of hand pinching. My favorite fixed sights are also a pleasure to aim - what more could one ask?

Great post !! I loved that movie two of my favorite pistols. I loved the theme song.....The pistols are still around, sadly the singer isn't...What a waste ...Whitney Houston was a very talented lady, voice that can not be mimicked or duplicated....... Drugs Seems those with every thing, seem to find a need for them....Sad!......I get a real feeling of sadness when i hear "I Will Always Love You' Such a talent wasted....What a great song, what a great singer....

I carried my high power yesterday, for the first time in a long while. Man! I forgot how good it carries IWB.

Oh my gosh, why the heck NOT!

It's only been around just a few years, but I own a MKII and a MKIII in MARPAT. I load them with Remington's 'boiler plate L9MM* series ammunition', since the MKII is an older series model.

When I don't carry it, I'm carrying my Model 15-3.

I used to know an ex-drug dealer that carried 2 hi powers in shoulder holsters. No problem.

Excellent pistol...as everyone else has said. Its lines are graceful, slim and pleasing to the eye. It's perfectly balanced, accurate, reliable, size efficient, and has more than adequate capacity for a more than adequate round.

I'd carry on on duty if allowed.

It's been criticized in the past for its 9mm caliber, but the very best contemporary 9mm ammo makes the BHP as relevant as ever, for LE or general self defense.

I knew one of the founding members of the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team (HRT). The Hi Power was HRT's original sidearm (perhaps due to the influence of the British SAS). That founding member carried it long after he left HRT...despite having other options. And yes, he could shoot. He told me that members who'd been issued the BHP didn't give them up.

That should tell you something...

Only 9mm I would own the Browning Hi-POWER. Have two a MK111 and a standard both 100% reliable&accurate.

It does tell me something!
I may get "blasted" for saying this but I think the Browning High Power may be the "Ultimate Handgun". I mean, there's nothing I can think of that I DON'T like about it.
Just found a galco summer comfort holster for mine on saturday.

All things considered, it's my favorite service size pistol...
