sig 2022, ruger sr9c, or s&w m&p9c?
Looking for a CCW gun and and trying to decide between a Sig 2022, Ruger SR9c, or S&W M&P9c. Thoughts and opinions please! (I'm leaning toward the Ruger or the S&W...S&W is esp nice cause I'm a lefty. )

I am not a fan of polymer guns, but I own six Glocks and have had a few others; HK, Walther, Ruger, and Glock. I am also not a fan of most Ruger products. I would suggest you visit a local range to rent and shoot those models that you are interested in before you make a purchase.

Yup, you need to fondle and shoot as many as you can. Also consider extra mag, holster, mag pouch etc. availability.

If you are looking at purse carry, I'd pick the trigger system first...something with a double action pull might be better than a Glock/M&P style...I also like an exposed hammer that I can put my thumb on when holstering.

I agree with sip, although l don't know what style purse he prefers. Probably one with an inside pocket for the gun of his choice.

The M&P is a very soft shooting gun. It also has excellent reliability and a lot of customizable parts.

Looking into renting them and going for trial range time...not a fan of Glocks for the most part...really don't like the way they fit in my hand and trigger angle seems odd. I'm most familiar with FS Rugers but I'm keeping an open mind. And yes, I'd have to purse carry most of the time as it would be hard to be even a little discreet in dress clothes!

This gal has some fantastic videos showing how she concealed carries in dress clothes, form-fitting clothes, and casual clothes. Check her videos out for ideas.

Another thing to consider if you must purse carry (my wife does this and I hate it) if you go to a J-frame with a hammer shroud you can fire that gun reliably from inside the purse. A semi-auto or a revolver without a shroud may only get one round off before a malfunction. Just a thought.

I would suggest the Ruger SR9c, great pistol- accurate, smooth- and it has a thumb-safety, which I wanted for my wife for purse carry. Unless you're more organized than she, I was concerned about having a pencil or something get into the trigger guard- yes, a pocket-holster would make a difference- but I love the 9c...you should also consider a S&W SD9. Another great, accurate, smooth-shooting pistol, no thumb safety. Both carry 15-17 rounds, too.

Thanks Lost Lake for the link to that girl's videos, she's got a lot of great input! I've done quite a bit more research and am leaning toward the M&P9c mostly due to its ambidexterous nature as the Ruger SR9c was the other top runner. Thanks so much for the opinions...keep em coming!

I was in the market for a new 9mm several months ago, so I went to the range and rented a Sig P250sc, Glock 26 and a Ruger SR9c. I shot a few boxes comparing them side by side. The double action trigger of the Sig was one of the smoothest triggers I've shot in a long time. For me, the Ruger was the most accurate and it fit my hand very well. I ended up buying a used Glock 26, basically because I've owned several over the years, find them extremely reliable, and as a bonus, I already had several holsters which would work with the G26.
All of the models you mention will serve you well. You might also want to visit the "Cornered Cat" website. She has some excellent information available to women interested in conceal carry. Good luck in your search.

M&P9c is a fabulous gun!
I have one sitting in front of me on my desk. My 10 year old loves to shoot it. It's that easy to handle.
The M&P9c can be easily outfitted with full size magazines remember! You can get a little filler for the full size mag that makes the gun handle just like a full size gun. That makes it even more comfortable at the range. That may not be an issue for you if you have small hands, but I know some bigger hand people really love the versatility. You also get three grip backs to adjust the gun to fit you the best. Even if you fit other guns well, I always consider the resale value of these features on the M&P. The little M&P9c is perfect for a small gal or a big brute of a man, and if you ever go to trade up or over, you will have a hot selling gun you will get top dollar for!

As much as I like the M&P9's, the Sig SP2022 you listed is a very sweet shooter. For the price, I'm going to pick one up in a couple months.
The DA/SA trigger was different for me, but I've got years of Glock/M&P use under my belt so anything not striker fired feels odd at first.

I've owned all three, and I will give you my impressions of the three first, then suggest one more alternative.
The SIG SP2022 is a good pistol...certainly for the price...and I am a fan of DA/SA action with a decocker. However, this pistol is (IMO) a little big for CCW. That varies by the person and how you dress, of course...and how you intend to carry (IWB, OWB, or off body.)
The Ruger SR9c is a good pistol too, and does come with a thumb safety. I just couldn't get really comfortable with the grip, though...it just seemed too small with the flat base plate, and not quite right with the extended base plate on the magazine. Of course, with the 17 round full size mag, it was too big for CCW. One thing I really did like about this pistol: it is very easy to remove the striker and clean out the channel; also, removing the mag disconnect was extremely easy.
The M&P9c is my favorite of the 3 pistols mentioned. It is just right in the hand (IMO) and carries well. It had a good capacity (12 rounds) in the standard mags, and the FS mags will give you 17 rounds. Mine doesn't have a mag disconnect or a safety...which I prefer.
Now, for an additional consideration: take a look at a Ruger LC9. It is smaller than any of the three mentioned above, has a 7 + 1 capacity, it is hammer fired, and comes with a mag disconnect and a thumb safety. (I don't care for the mag disconnect, but I can live with it.) It is really good for CCW, and I can actually carry it in my pocket...some say it is too big for them to do that, but I can manage it just fine (one advantage to wearing big boy pants! )

I've got an M&P 9c that I adore. No safety other than the trigger. Shoots well. I carry it IWB.
My only complaint is that I hadn't discovered that Bowie Tactical will cut down the grips on a FS and make it fit the compact mags.
Had I known that I would have bought the full size and had it cut down. I like the longer barrels. Don't know how that would be in the purse though.

If I know Sip, the purse will compliment his belt and shoes! You can take the Cop out of Hollywood, but you can't take the Hollywood out of the Cop.

The Sig 2022 is my duty gun for years now. It's incredibly reliable, the trigger is smooth.
It,s easy to carry concealed especially in my El Paso Saddlery Sky Six holster anchored to an El Paso Saddlery River Belt.
Nevertheless, this otherwise great autoloader might be somewhat on the heavy side for a purse carry.
Hope it might help.

Might I suggest a Sig P250 9mm sub compact. Great ergonomics, extremely reliable and accurate. Lots of options with the modularity, i.e. You can purchase conversion kits for sc, compact and full size in 9mm, 357 sig, 40 S&W and 45 ACP. I has no external safeties but a long, smooth DAO trigger that only gets better the more you shoot it.

I will also sing the praise of the SP2022. I own one in .40 and find the trigger to be fantastic! The sights are easy to aquire for follow up shots and recoil was minimal. The small size grip would be best for carry, but my hands prefer the medium. I polished the feed ramp and added a stainless guide rod to mine.

FYI, removing and cleaning the striker pin and channel on the M&P is fairly easy and simple as well. I do it with every cleaning.

I don't like conventional double action autos for the most part. Therefore, I'd go with the Ruger or the S&W.
I've got a couple of Glocks and GREATLY prefer the Glock trigger to that of ANY d/a auto I've EVER tried.

The M&P can be had with a thumb safety as well. Excellent gun.
