Leather Kydex Hybrid Holster w pics
Hey all...I just wanted to show off my newest IWB holsters for my 3" K-frames (13 and 65). This is a leather/kydex hybrid so it does NOT collapse unlike many others I've tried. The quality and workmanship is IMO top notch. The maker is Mike Brown. Home Page He is relatively new in the field, but I'm really impressed with his work. He is in the Phoenix area so I've met personally with him, but I'm sure he ships. For all the work he has done for me (see also the HK P7 holster below) he has come up with exactly what I want even though he hadn't done anything like them before. I almost hesitate to give him the shout out, because currently his turnaround is pretty good too, and I'm sure that will change once he gets a national reputation. I'm pretty sure he also does leather without the kydex inserts but I really like the stiffness that the kydex gives it...and it doesn't LOOK like plastic!

Very nice work. Curious though about the leather/kydex combo. I've seen some of these hybrids where it was leather ouside, kydex lined (FIST Holsters, among others, does this style) but in your case it appears as the kydex is completely encased/enveloped by leather so no kydex contact with gun---is that correct? I can see how you'd benefit in terms of stiffness but is the kydex thin enough so as not to create a really thick holster? Interesting product to say the least----and really nice looking work. Gonna have to visit his site. Thanks for sharing.

Yes the kydex seems to be completely covered. As far as I can tell (and I'm not a leathersmith) he encorporates the kydex around the mouth only, much like the metal reinforced openings that many use. I don't think the kydex extends down over the barrel. It is slightly thicker than a similar style collapsable Lobo holster I have, but not by much. Certainly not thicker than some of my other quality leather holsters. His web site is rather spartan...not a ton of info or descriptions which is why its been nice to meet him in person to work out what I want, but I'm sure he would be easy to work with over the phone as well. He's been a great guy to deal with.
By the way I also own a couple FIST hybrid holsters, and they are good too, but I think the overall fit and finish on these is nicer.
