Default Bob Mika is pretty cool....

I put in an order for one of his pocket holsters late last night, and due to the late hour, forgot to fill in some of the details on his site about color/handgun/round or flat profile. I got an email back from him within minutes confirming my order, along with a statement that he would have called me had it not been so late. I sent another email this morning with the details, and he called me, again within minutes of my email.

We chatted about the holster, guns, shooting, ammo selection, for about 15 minutes. I learned some things I didn't know about CCW-related matters, and we nailed down what I needed from the holster. He promised me that I would receive the holster within the lead-time stated on his site, about 2-3 weeks.

All in all, I am VERY impressed with his level of customer service, and will likely do business with him in the future.

I have at least a dozen Mika Pocket Holsters, more like 16, and when I placed another order earlier this week for 2 more I still received "The call."

Several years ago I ordered an IWB hoster for my 36-3. More recently I ordered two holsters for my Kel-Tec PF9, one IWB and one pocket holster. In each case, Mike's attention to detail and service oriented approach was well appreciated. I was as impressed as you were.

My chestnut brown w/ black stitching, round profile holster should arrive about the same time as my CCW permit. I'm stoked!

+1 to all of the above.
NOBODY makes a better pocket holster for a J Frame.

Yep, +1 to all of your experiences.

I just got a ship notification this morning that my two J-frame round bottom pocket Mikas will ship first of the week.

I can't wait!

Could I ask you guys with J-frame Mika pocket holsters a question?

I have read that they "flatten out" somewhat or perhaps break in is the best word after you carry them a while.

Has anyone successfully accelerated that process by putting the holster with your gun in it under a book or something while it's not in use? I find that mine are staying open in my pocket more than I think necessary thereby making it more obvious that something is in my pocket.

Probably would work, but after a month of carrying my Model 36 in one of Bob's holsters, it is flattening significantly. At its newest, it did not "print" much at all.

He makes them so that they stay open at the top a little on purpose so that, as he says, "you never have to worry about the gun hanging up on the holster".

Love it.

+1 on everything said so far. When I get in a hurry to
go somewhere, it takes no time at all to slip a pocket holster
into my pocket. And I can do that first, w/o the gun, 'cause the gun slips in with no trouble at all. Various j-frames all fit just fine.

I prefer carrying my Commander but a j-frame in a Mika is SOOOOOOO convenient. I only have two but I guess maybe I need more guns to just so I can get more holsters?

Great service!

It only takes about 3 days in your pocket to break in.
It's also the only pocket holster to my knowledge
that you can re holster your gun
without taking the holster out of your pocket.

Yeah, I'm working on my two, but I'm finding it takes a little longer than that for me.

HAving said that, I really like them a lot.

I got an email on Sunday night/early Monday morning from Bob with a tracking number for my holster, so I guess it's en route. This is a good thing because my CCW just came in the mail today!

I wrote to Bob and reminded him I ordered a holster in January. At that time I reported here in a different thread that he did not want payment up front, maybe I was wrong or heard him wrong, but I thought he said he'd send my holster out and I could drop a check in the mail after I got it. I know that sounds crazy, but I swear that's what I heard.

So I asked if I could get a total cost so I could send a check now, or if I need to reorder or if maybe my order was lost. I didn't want to duplicate an order and really screw things up.

Bob replied by email the next day and said he found my order and was just a bit behind. He didn't give me a total cost or anything.

So I am waiting again, and hope I see a holster within a month or so.

Update:

Still no Mika holster.

Ordered it in January, reminded Bob I ordered one more than 2 weeks ago.

All I wanted was an IWB for my M&P 9.

I guess I'll email him again and see if he will send me one or not.

You guys have better luck than I do.....

Follow Up again:

I wrote to Mika and he replied rather promptly giving me a tracking number. I am leaving for a week so I tried to run the number and it comes up unknown. He must not have validated it with the post office or something yet, but no worries, they can just hold the package at the post office until I return.

I'll let you guys know how things turn out.

I received my holster this week for my Glock 26. It is the only holster out of roughly half a dozen I have tried in the past that actually stays in your pocket every time!! It's a keeper!!

I got my holster, it was in the mail when I returned from my trip.

It fits the compact 9 well, but I'd like to ask you guys that have one if when you put your gun in the holster does the slide come back a bit? I'll include some pictures. When I seat the gun firmly in the holster the slide racks back. This is only when I firmly seat the gun.

The stitching is off a bit also, which probably doesn't matter much, but at the top of the holster the stitching is set back from the edge about 1/4". The two pieces of fabric are separated right there on both sides of the holster. I think there may be some glue around the rest of the seam, but either the opening wasn't glued or the glue set up before the pieces were bonded because they are coming apart now. I may try some fabric cement on them as they shouldn't be apart.

Looking inside the holster I see a couple of threads that are loose. I'm hoping it's not the front site rubbing on them making them come apart. As I pull the gun from the holster the front sight drags a good bit on the inside of the holster.

Other than those minor details the design is great, the clip is super strong and the materials feel good. I haven't had time to wear it much yet, and just looking at it I would think the clip is a bit too high on the holster as it places the grip down under the belt by about 1/2" or so. I think the grip will try to rotate forward and out of the belt but like I said I haven't worn it much yet. Maybe you can compare the clip on my holster pictures to the holster you have.

I will wear it first, then if I find I would like some changes I will see if Mika can make me one just a little different. But I will definitely give it a chance first. He is the expert here!

Last issue: He never sent me an invoice. Did you guys get an invoice in the package or pay up front or what? Should I just send him the price listed on his website and add about $5 shipping or what? He did not respond when I asked for a final invoice amount. I hate to be the squeaky wheel, and I hope he doesn't ever read about my concerns I posted here because the overall quality of the holster looks fine, and I like the materials, and to tell the truth I want to order more and don't want to be labelled a 'bad egg'. This is my first Mika holster and I may want to tweak it a bit for my own preferences, but overall it looks like just what I want!

Thumbs up Lost Lake...........

You're not a "bad egg" I'm sure. I DO NOT get the bad egg feeling from any of your posts.

Now here's my story. I studied up on Mika holsters & called Robert, I believe it was the day after x-mas 2011. I bet we talked for close to an hour. I love Robert & all he stands for. & ya know what......my order must have fallen behand the desk, cause, I've never received a holster. I was wanting a pocket holster for a Colt Lawman MKIII. (snub nose)
I told Robert that I wasn't crazy about the weight of the above Colt pertaining to concealed carry. Long story short, Robert told me about a Berretta 21A. (.22) and I purchased the 21A upon Roberts reccomendation. (said his wife had one I believe) I love my little mouse!!!!!!!!!!

Another little detail of my talk with Robert. At one point I asked Robert to give me his addy so I could send funds.(duh....addy was on Roberts web site (I'm sorta old too...lol) Robert said not to worry about sending funds at the time....that if I liked the holster to then make payment. I REALLY LIKE that kind of business MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope I'm somehow getting my point accross.

After posting this reply in the S&W forum, I'm going to write Robert a handwritten letter and order a pocket holster for my 21A.

I'll bet powerball winning ticket to a dollar that I receive a fine piece of craftmanship!!!!!!!!!

One more thing I just thought of before hitting the "post" button.
I don't know what happened to my original order and I really don't care. Things just happen sometimes. To me ( the first order ) is a non-issue.

Stay safe all & God Bless!!!!!!!!!!

john

Okay, another update. Bob called. I wrote to him and mentioned the slide would rack a bit and he called immediately saying that wouldn't do! I also asked what glue to use and he said not to use any glue, he was making me a new holster and moving the stitching and expanding the end of the holster.

We had a bit of an argument going for a while, I want to pay him and let this holster break in and see how it is, he wants to make me a new one and see how I like it. I said forget the new one, make me one for my BG380 and I'll buy that one, so now he's making me two new holsters!

I don't think the slide racking is that big of a deal, maybe the material will stretch. I glued the seams with some Shoe Goo and they are great now. The holster is really comfortable, much more so than the Galco I have and paid much more for.

Bob is a perfectionist he said. I guess the bad part is he doesn't have my 9c so he can slide it in and out and see the sight rubbing the inside and maybe he didn't think about the edges opening after being worn a while. Or maybe this holster got away from him or he has some new help.

Bottom line for today: He seems like he wants to make things right, his materials and holster feels really nice, and he is easy to contact. I'm hoping the QC on the new holsters is a bit better and then I'll have a couple of dang nice holsters.

Then I'll go ahead and order more holsters! I have lots of guns...

Smile Just got off the phone with Robert.

Holster for 21A is on the way.
My call to Robert this morning got a recording. ( I left no message)
Within a few minutes my cell rings & it's Robert!!!!!!!!
We chat a while & Robert just seems to want to make me happy with my holster. What great service. Get the holster FIRST, then make payment.

Thumbs up I formed my opinion in 2011.

I tried to allude to that in my first post.
So see, ya didn't have to tell me.

My holster arrived Saturday & is a fine piece of craftsmanship!!!!!
I'll remit payment soon.

I don't know what is up, but you ordered a holster on 4/21 and you got it already? My post was on 4/16 where he said he would get my holster out as soon as he could.

Maybe the stars are out of alignment for me and Mika or something.... Maybe your holster is like a stock item or something like that?

I'm glad you got yours and are happy with it!!!

Maybe you could order me one???

Exclamation Patience.

I've got to believe you'll be more than happy when this all plays out Lost Lake!!!!!!!!

Reading back thru the posts, I believe you wanted a IWB holster.
I would think that IWB holster takes WAY more time to make than a pocket holster for my lil bug. Perhaps that is a small part of the delay.
I assume the holsters you're getting are for CC. If so, I'd ( like yourself ) want them JUST right.

Again, in the end, I gotta believe you'll be pleased Lost Lake.

Default Mika Holsters

He is a classy guy. His J-frame holsters are perfect; if they flattened out, the gun would show, but mine at least has never flattened out. Reholstering is easy and fast.

I got one for an LC9 and it fits perfectly. I agree with all the above kudos. I ordered and forgot to stipulate round or square and he promptly called me to confirm. Had a nice conversation even though it was later in the evening than I would have expected a call.

I ordered a holster for my j frame. We had a couple of emails back and forth to clarify details. I asked about holsters for my 3914, and he suggested I wait until I receive the initial order, then decide if I want to order again. I'll wait, on his recommendation, but unless he sends me complete trash, I'm ordering that next holster anyhow.

Mine's now a little more than a month old, and it's been a great holster so far. I carry my mod. 49 Bodyguard everywhere I legally can now, which is everywhere except for school(which, oddly, is the one place I feel I need to have it....). Mine's flattened out a bit, but it's molded to my gun and now feels just like the wallet I keep in the other front pocket.

Good stuff!!

Default Just wanted to jump aboard...

I got a square-bottomed holster for my 442 from
Mr. Mika a while back, and just recently got a chance
to test it for an extended period. It felt comfortable
right from the start, and stayed that way. Just excellent!

Default Mika holster update:

Well it has been over a month since Mika told me he would make me a new holster ASAP and get it to me, and I have nothing.

I am so tired of emailing and calling him, nicely telling him I ordered a holster in January and I'm still waiting....

Is there someone else who makes a similar holster? I like the softer fabric and the moisture guard idea. I'd like the Mika holster if I didn't have to BEG for it for months....

If you guys have any ideas I'm all ears. When I talk to Mika he sounds sincere and swears he'll make a holster right away, he apologizes and tells me he won't accept money until I have a holster, then nothing.

Update again:

Someone tipped Robert Mika off that I am frustrated that I have the worst luck in getting his products.

He PM'd me (he is a member here) and again promised he'd come through. All I can do is hope.

I'd really like to buy a couple of his holsters!! It just kills me when you guys post that you order a Mika holster and then receive it in a week or so.

I ordered one for my 442 back before he got so popular and I had it in about a week. It had my name written inside, I guess to keep track of who gets what.
About three days later I get a duplicate holster in the mail. I called him and he said he thought my name sounded familiar when he was making the second holster.
I told him I could use the extra and I would send funds, he said "No Way" it is yours free.
I have since ordered for other gund with a reasonable wait time and a great holster.

I have ordered a couple of his holsters. I use the ordering form on his web site and pay for it when I order using Paypal or a credit card. I think it is great that he seems to be willing to make a custom holster, send it to someone, and hope they send payment but I would never expect or want him to do that for me.

I too was VERY impressed with Mr. Mika. Within 2 hours of making an order I received a telephone call from him. He explained in detail how he made his holsters and that he would let me know when it is shipped. What a gentleman he is.
